Smith & Co. (One Bangkok)

The truffle burger is what put this place on people's radar, and it's still the dish most tables order. Fair enough. But the reviews that interest me more are the ones from diners who skipped the viral thing entirely and came away impressed anyway. Baked macaroni, thick burgers, pasta in creamy or tomato sauces, portions built for people who've decided not to think about calories today. That's the kitchen's real range.

One thing I'd skip: the Caesar salad. More than one diner has flagged it as pleasant but not worth what it costs next to everything else on the table. Order the pasta instead.

It sits on the ground floor of The Storeys at One Bangkok, so you get proper air conditioning and a polished modern room, which matters more in April than anyone admits. Groups do well here. Staff get consistent praise for actually explaining the menu rather than just taking the order.

Reviews from Google

Smith & Co. Review: Beyond the Viral Burger Smith & Co. has recently gained fame for its highly creative—and potentially divisive—truffle-soaked burger spectacle. While we appreciated the culinary ingenuity, we opted to skip the truffle trend and explore the true capabilities of the kitchen through its classic offerings. The result was a dining experience that proved the kitchen can deliver high quality far beyond its viral fame. Culinary Execution: The Highlights The Baked Macaroni was the clear highlight of the meal. It was prepared beautifully, featuring a generous, melty layer of cheese that cloaked perfectly cooked pasta. Crucially, the pasta maintained the right chewiness (al dente) without becoming overly soft, making it one of the best versions of this comfort dish we’ve had. The Beef Steak was also excellent. It was cooked well and required nothing more than the salt and pepper provided to bring out its flavor. We noted that the accompanying peppercorn sauce was a bit bland, but given the quality of the simply prepared beef, we were happy to forgo the sauce entirely. Room for Improvement My wife ordered the Grilled Chicken Salad , which was fresh and satisfying. However, the chicken was exclusively dark meat. Given that many prefer white meat for a salad, offering a choice of chicken cut would be a welcome improvement for customer preference. Ambiance and Verdict The atmosphere was cozy and pleasantly uncrowded during our visit, a welcome change from the typical weekend wait times this restaurant usually commands. Overall, Smith & Co. succeeds by delivering reliable, high-quality bistro fare that stands on its own merits. While the truffle burger might be the draw for some, we would certainly return for an easy and delicious brunch centered on their excellent comfort food staples.

Truffle burger was very delicious! There was a long waiting list considering that I came on Valentine’s day. Great thing was that they didn’t force customers to order some sort of set menu and just let us choose a la carte, despite the special occasion. The price was also fair and not overly expensive.

We didn’t work our way through the entire menu, but the hamburgers alone carried the table. As for the Caesar salad—between its portion and its price, it felt more like a sidekick with leading-role ambitions. Pleasant, but hardly a must-order

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
