Lumphini MRT Station

4.3(257 reviews)

Lumphini MRT Station sits on the Blue Line of Bangkok's MRT subway network, serving the Thung Maha Mek area of Sathon. The station is a practical entry point for commuters and visitors heading to Lumphini Park, Q House, and the broader Sathon business corridor. For those caught in the notorious traffic congestion on Sathorn Road, the station offers a straightforward alternative to sitting in gridlock. The station has an architectural detail worth noting: unlike most MRT stations, the two subway tubes here could not be built side by side due to spatial constraints underground, resulting in a layout that differs from others on the line. The station tends to be less crowded than nearby stops, partly because passengers heading to central destinations often opt for the adjacent Silom station instead. An underground walkway connecting the station to the One Bangkok development is also in progress, which will add further pedestrian convenience to the area. Travellers should be aware that station staff have, on occasion, asked passengers for tips after providing directions — something not standard practice in Bangkok's transit system. Exits lead directly toward Lumphini Park and local hotels, making orientation straightforward. The station operates as part of the wider Bangkok MRT network, so through-journeys to other Blue Line destinations are simple to plan using the standard ticketing system.

Visitor Reviews

A few stations of the Bangkok subway system are different, Lumphini Station is on of those. Here the engineers did not have the space to build the two tubes next to each other. Therefore they had to build them on top of each other which challenges you to know which direction you want to go before you go downstairs. Because the lower tubes are very deep under ground you will find here super long escalators. As all stations they are clean and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Escape traffic jam from Sathorn road by easily access to MRT at Lumpini station.

Tips for Visiting Transportation

Take the Sleeper Train at Least Once

The Bangkok-to-Chiang Mai overnight train in a second-class sleeper berth is a bucket-list experience. Book at least a week ahead via 12Go.asia or at Hua Lamphong station. Upper berths are cheaper and have more headroom; lower berths have a window.

Use Grab Everywhere

Grab is the Uber of Southeast Asia and works across Thailand for cars, motorbike taxis, and even tuk-tuks in some cities. It eliminates haggling and provides fare estimates upfront. Load a Thai SIM or use eSIM to stay connected.

Rent Scooters Carefully

Always photograph the scooter's existing damage before riding off, and keep your passport — give a photocopy instead (some shops insist on the original; avoid these). Wear a helmet; police fine 500 THB for no helmet and accidents without one void insurance.
