Lulum Restaurant Chiang Rai
Sitting along Kwae Wai Road in central Chiang Rai, this spacious riverside restaurant serves authentic northern Thai cuisine to a mixed crowd of locals and travellers. The menu leans firmly into regional cooking, including dishes that venture into more adventurous territory, making it a genuine introduction to the flavours of the north rather than a diluted tourist experience. The large dining area offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor section providing a pleasant outlook over the water. Visitors can expect bold, fiery flavours — the curries in particular reflect true northern Thai heat, which is worth keeping in mind for those with a lower spice tolerance. Staff are noted as helpful when it comes to navigating the extensive menu, and recommendations are readily offered. The atmosphere is unpretentious and lively at peak times, well-suited to groups. Pricing sits in the mid-range bracket, and portions are considered good value for the setting. The restaurant opens daily from 10:30am to 8:15pm, covering both lunch and early dinner. It can get busy, particularly in the evenings, so arriving early is advisable. Visitors specifically recommend coming around 5:00 to 5:30pm to catch the sunset over the water. Parking is plentiful on site, which is a practical bonus for those arriving by car or scooter in central Chiang Rai.

Visitor Reviews
Located right along the street with some hotels. Do note that it can get quite busy at times so do come early. Food is amazing!! Came with a local and was introduced to some exotic foods. Their raw prawns is fresh and has a nice texture. Got to try raw pork! I know it sounds intimidating but trust me is nice! We had cooked pork brains as well! Honestly in my opinion is actually really nice! It is similar to otah, is cooked in a similar way. Overall would definitely go back if I ever got the chance! Travelled there around new years from Singapore!
The foods are so tasty! I’ve tried the platter (idk what are the names, sorry lmao). There are lots of delicious menu, you can ask the staff for some recommendations. If you love something spicy, they surely have some good meals! Additionally, the parking lot and the place are huge, no need to worry about getting seat. Due to the location which near the river, the weather was so hot. But surprisingly good enough to enjoy it with beers ;)
28/October/2025 Had dinner here in a group of 4 adults. Food was quite good. Nice ambience by the river. Staffs were helpful in ordering our items on the menu. Considerably big dining area.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
