The Thai Massage ChiangRai

4.8(490 reviews)

Situated in Chiang Rai's Wiang district, this massage spa has built a strong following among both travellers and locals for delivering authentic, therapeutic treatments rooted in traditional Thai healing practices. The range of services includes traditional Thai massage, aromatherapy oil massage, foot massage, hot oil massage, and deep tissue work, giving visitors flexibility to choose a treatment suited to their needs. The atmosphere is consistently described by visitors as calm and cosy, with thoughtful touches that set the experience apart. Oil massage sessions begin with a warm foot bath and the opportunity to choose from a selection of scented oils, followed by treatment in a private space. Therapists are noted for their experience and attentiveness, and the overall environment lends itself to genuine relaxation rather than a rushed, tourist-oriented service. Good to know: Specific opening hours and pricing are not listed online, so it is worth calling ahead or stopping by in person to confirm availability and book a session, particularly during peak tourist periods. Sessions involving oil massage require changing into provided attire, so comfortable, loose clothing is practical for the journey there. The central location in the old city makes it easy to incorporate a visit into a broader day of exploring Chiang Rai.

Visitor Reviews

I went to this salon on a friend's recommendation. My first massage was an aromatherapy oil massage. I really enjoyed it. My second time, I decided to try a back massage, that was for me new experience, because too hard for me. It was very painful, even though I'd specified a medium-firmness massage. Overall, the salon is very nice, everything is clean and quite comfortable. All the staff are very polite and try their best. The prices are a bit higher than in other salons. It's a good idea to fill out a questionnaire about yourself and your massage preferences before the massage. However, I think they should include information about any spinal protrusions so the massage therapist can take this into account when working with the client. It's also very convenient that you can pay with a Visa credit card if you don't have cash. I recommend this place, because they always want to be better here. I've had two massages from a therapist named Chai. He's very confident and professional. I'll definitely come back.

Such an amazing massage experience! The atmosphere in this salon is incredibly cozy and relaxing, and the therapists are truly professional. I had a foot massage and actually fell asleep — that’s how good it was. They scrub and wash your feet before the massage, which makes the whole experience even more refreshing. It’s a popular place, so it’s better to book in advance. You can also choose your preferred massage pressure beforehand, which is a great touch. After a long day of walking around Chiang Rai, this was the perfect way to unwind. This is only the second massage salon in Thailand that I can wholeheartedly recommend — absolutely worth a visit!

Best massage ever!!! I’ve been to plenty massages in thailand and other countries- this was the best❤️ I took oil massage, they gave me oils to choose from, which all smelled amazing, water at the beginning and washed my feet with a scrub and lime. I had a couples massage with my husband in a private room that was beautiful with relaxing music and got massage LITERALLY from head to toe. It was an amazing experience and I would definitely go back again! Kom the masseuse was so nice and always made sure Im ok and that nothing is too strong. The whole staff was so kind and we got great tea at the end. 10/10! ❤️❤️❤️

Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas

Learn Wat Pho First

Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.

Communicate Pressure Preferences

Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.

Book Longer Sessions

A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
