Bamboo tours
Bamboo Tours is a well-regarded travel agency based in Chiang Rai, offering guided day tours that take visitors into the region's jungle landscapes, to scenic waterfalls, and through local hill tribe villages. Tour options also cover Chiang Rai's famous cultural landmarks, including the White Temple and Blue Temple, making it a flexible choice for travellers with varied interests. Guides are a consistent highlight in visitor feedback, with names like Kai and Kwan frequently praised for their strong English, local knowledge, and warm personalities. Tours typically include hotel pickup from within Chiang Rai, which adds a layer of convenience for independent travellers. Expect a mix of trekking, boat rides, village stops, and scenic viewpoints depending on the itinerary chosen. The experience leans active and immersive rather than a passive sightseeing circuit, with guides encouraging genuine engagement with the surroundings. Groups tend to be small, which contributes to a more personal atmosphere on the trail. Good to know: Bamboo Tours operates seven days a week from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, giving travellers flexibility when planning their itinerary. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended for trekking routes, and bringing water, sunscreen, and light rain protection is advisable given the jungle terrain. Booking in advance through the official website at bambootourschiangrai.com is the best way to confirm tour availability, clarify difficulty levels, and arrange hotel pickup logistics, particularly during the busier cool-season months between November and February.

Visitor Reviews
We did a 1 day waterfall and trekking tour - it was simply incredible. Our guide Mr. Kai had excellent English, was funny, and very knowledgeable. We were picked up from our hotel in Chiang Rai, drove to the waterfall parking and hiked 1400m to the most beautiful and peaceful waterfall. We went for a swim at the base and Mr. Mai took all kind of pictures and videos the whole time. The timing was perfect as there was no one there while we were at the waterfall, but we passed many people on the way back to the car. We then stopped for lunch close by and had delicious fresh food while sitting on a bamboo deck beside a stream. The afternoon was a challenging 2-2.5 hour trek through jungle and farmlands where we were entertained with all kind of jungle crafts, natural noise-makers, information about the plants and animals, and even some fresh honey (literally the best honey I've ever had and could ever expect to have) directly from the hive. We arrived at Mr. Kais mother's farm house where we were welcomed with papaya, pork cracklings and rice whiskey. After resting and learning about the farm property for 30-40 minutes, we were off again on a quick walk to the handmade bamboo raft. The whole thing was so rewarding and felt like a mix between a challenge and reward from the tv show survivor. Would recommend for anyone up for the walking/rough terrain and looking to immerse yourself in Thai style outdoor living and natural wonders for a day, it is an experience you won't forget, with pictures of the whole thing!
We booked our trip through Bamboo Tours and did a one-day private tour with our guide Kwan. He was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the White and Blue Temples with lots of great explanations. We also visited the Baan Dam Museum and had a delicious lunch at a nearby restaurant owned by his wife. The Long Neck village was another highlight — Kwan knew many locals and we were able to truly walk through and experience the village. A wonderful guide and an unforgettable day. Highly recommended!
Just wanted to say how grateful I am for such a wonderful day. The 1 day trek met all my expectations (which were quite high). Amazing guide, vast knowledge sharing, lovely conversations, breathtaking views, hearty meal in a mountain village, etc. This is were unforgettable trip memories are made. Wholeheartedly recommended 👌

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
