Return to Simple
Tucked into the laid-back town of Pai in Mae Hong Son province, Return to Simple is a carefully curated independent store specialising in handcrafted goods. The shop brings together an eclectic mix of handmade leather accessories, distinctive jewellery including necklaces and rings, stationery, and art — all with the kind of considered, artisanal quality that sets it apart from typical tourist market fare. What makes Return to Simple particularly notable is the range it offers under one roof. Visitors consistently highlight the leather goods — bracelets in particular — with the owner known for taking time to personalise fittings on the spot. The jewellery selection draws equally strong praise for its originality. Perhaps the most unexpected draw is the shop's small but well-regarded selection of gourmet vegan chocolate, which has developed a loyal following among locals and travellers alike looking for a high-quality, plant-based treat in town. The shop is open every day of the week from noon until 10pm, making it a natural stop for an afternoon browse or an evening wander through Pai. The owner has a reputation for warmth and attentiveness, which adds to the relaxed, personal atmosphere of the space. Those looking for a meaningful souvenir or a handcrafted gift rather than mass-produced goods will find this store worth seeking out. The Etsy presence at returntosimple.etsy.com also allows visitors to browse the range before or after their visit.

Visitor Reviews
A Sweet Delight at Return to Simple in Pai Return to Simple in Pai is a treasure trove for anyone with a love for quality, handcrafted treats, especially their exceptional chocolates. These little gems are a perfect representation of simplicity done right—rich, indulgent, and crafted with care that you can taste in every bite. The chocolates are pure decadence, made with the finest ingredients that let the flavors shine. The nut-topped ones add just the right amount of crunch to the velvety chocolate, creating a balance that's both satisfying and luxurious. They’re not overly sweet, letting the natural richness of the cacao take center stage, which feels like a treat for both the palate and the soul. The philosophy of "returning to simple" is evident not just in the chocolates but in the entire experience. The peaceful setting, the attention to detail, and the authenticity of the offerings create a calm, grounding moment that makes you appreciate the finer things in life. If you’re in Pai, do yourself a favor and stop by Return to Simple. Their chocolates are more than just a snack—they’re an experience that will linger in your memory long after the last bite. A true gem of Pai's culinary scene!
This place is a gem! Besides the BEAUTIFUL jewelry they have (necklaces and rings that made me want to buy it all) and leather accessories, they also had just a few options of gourmet chocolate in their fridge. when I saw it was vegan chocolate I was quite sad cause it’s usually never as good as real chocolate. BESIDES THIS ONES! They were the most yummy vegan chocolates I ever tried and it costs only 20baht per package! I came back to buy it in multiple different days!
Amazing shop with beautiful handmade leather items. The seller was incredibly kind and took the time to adjust the bracelet perfectly to my wrist, which is very small. I’ve never owned a bracelet before because they’re always too big for me, so this meant a lot. Such a special place with personal service — highly recommended.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
