Chao Phrom Market
Chao Phrom Market is a well-established traditional market in the heart of Ayutthaya, drawing both locals and visitors with its wide selection of fresh vegetables, meat, seafood, and ready-to-eat breakfast foods. The market has a genuine, unfiltered atmosphere that reflects everyday life in the region, making it a worthwhile stop for travellers who want to experience local food culture beyond the usual tourist trail. Stalls are densely packed and busy throughout the morning, offering a mix of fresh produce, cooked dishes, and street food at prices that visitors consistently find reasonable. Be aware that some areas of the market carry strong odours, as is common in traditional wet markets of this kind — this is part of the authentic experience rather than a drawback. The market is conveniently located near Chao Phrom Pier, making it easy to combine with a visit to Ayutthaya's historic sites. Travellers arriving by train from Bangkok can cross from the station by ferry for just 10 baht, landing close to the market entrance. Chao Phrom Market opens at 03:00 and runs until 18:00, six days a week — though the freshest produce and the most active atmosphere are found in the early morning hours. Arriving before 08:00 is recommended to see the market at its peak.

Visitor Reviews
Very good local market. Can get fresh vegetables, meat, seafood and breakfast/food
Great experience learning about the local daily food
Very beautiful. After taking the locomotive train from Bangkok to Ayutthaya, cross over from the train station to take a ferry to Chao Phrom pier. It's only 10 baht. From there, you can charter a bicycle, motorcycle or tuk tuk tour at a very cheap rate from a shop name December House. It's a wonderful shop run by a lady named Nid Noi. Very honest, helpful and welcoming person.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
