Charlie&lek
A consistently popular spot on Rangsiyanon Road, Charlie&lek has built a strong following among both travellers and locals for its authentic Thai cooking and genuinely welcoming atmosphere. The menu ventures well beyond standard tourist fare, with dishes like pineapple red curry, banana flower salad, and a green papaya pad thai drawing particular praise from visitors. Portions are generous and prices remain firmly budget-friendly, making it a reliable choice for those who want real flavour without the expense. The dining atmosphere is lively and unpretentious, fitting naturally into Pai's relaxed character. Visitors can expect a mix of locals and travellers sharing a space that feels lived-in rather than tourist-facing. Staff are frequently noted as warm and attentive, and repeat visitors describe the food as bursting with flavour and rooted firmly in Thai culinary tradition. Good to know: Charlie&lek opens daily at 11:00 AM and closes at 8:30 PM, making it a practical option for both lunch and early dinner. The restaurant can fill up quickly during peak evening hours, with noticeable wait times reported when it is busy. Arriving for lunch or before 6:00 PM is the most reliable way to secure a table without a long wait. There is no website, so visits are walk-in only, and bringing cash is advisable given the informal setup.

Visitor Reviews
Not sure about some of the negative reviews here on google map. Charlie & Lek is for sure one of the best restaurants we have experienced during our travels. The atmosphere is very vibrant and it looks like everybody knows everybody. The noise level in the front area of the restaurant is a little bit high, but there is a quieter section in the back. The menu offers many healthy options as well as Thai-classics. We ordered Khao soi with chicken, quinoa salad with tempeh, sticky rice with mango and 2 Chang beers. We had to wait a little bit for our food to arrive (it was very busy) and our main dishes did not come together. However, we truly enjoyed the presentation, the generous portions and the flavour of all meals received. When you're finished with your meal you queue up at the counter to pay your bill with Charlie. Thank you Charlie and his team for a lovely evening and we will be back tomorrow. Peter & Birgit (table B7)
We came here twice and always had very delicious and cheap (!!) food!! The staff is also very sweet ☺️ the first evening it was really busy so we had to wait for quite a long time, the next day it was less busy and the food came really fast. Highly recommend the pumpkin curry, khao soi and tempeh salad (comes with quinoa and the peanut sauce was great!), fried rice was great too!
Tried the pineapple red curry, warm banana flower salad, and green papaya pad thai — like a mix of papaya salad and pad thai. All were excellent! Banana flower salad was unlike anything I’ve had before in a warm curry sauce. The staff were so kind and served us even though we came right at closing! Thank you for the delicious food and service :)

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
