Situated on Maenamkwai Road in the heart of Kanchanaburi, this open-air marketplace sits conveniently close to the famous River Kwai Bridge, making it a natural stop for visitors exploring the area. The market specialises in gemstones and jewellery, with several stalls offering a range of stones, necklaces, and rings at reportedly reasonable prices — a draw for those seeking locally sourced souvenirs with a regional character.
Beyond the gem stalls, the market also features food and drink vendors, though visitor experiences here have been notably inconsistent. Several reviewers have flagged that food items did not match the images displayed on promotional banners, and some have found the atmosphere more geared toward tourists than locals. The drink stalls have received more positive feedback. Shoppers focused on stones and jewellery tend to leave more satisfied than those visiting primarily for food.
The market is open seven days a week from 08:00 to 17:00, so there is no need to plan around specific days. Those in the area primarily to visit the River Kwai Bridge may find this a convenient spot for parking and a browse. Visitors are advised to focus on the gem and jewellery stalls where value appears strongest, and to manage expectations around the food offerings. Checking the market's Facebook page before visiting is recommended for the latest updates on stall availability.

Reviews from Google
Good spot to buy some stones here as souvenirs. We went there for parking before heading to River Kaew Bridge. All the shop we offered reasonable and good stones. We got 2 necklace and one ring which really nice deal and good quality. 👍
A typical tourist market. Have some nice things, but most is crappy souvenirs.
I’d rather find food in town which is much better than having it here. The actual dishes look 100% different than what are shown on the ad banners. Thai ice tea was ok. Awful tourist trap!

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
Claim Your VAT Refund
Spend 2,000+ THB at a single store displaying 'VAT Refund for Tourists' signs, get a yellow form at the register, and claim 7% VAT back at the airport. It adds up fast on bigger purchases.
