Concentration Camp Market
Located just steps from the iconic Bridge on the River Kwai, this evening market draws its name and loose thematic identity from the area's wartime history, though it functions primarily as a casual local gathering spot rather than a historical site. Food stalls are the main attraction, with cold drinks, fresh fruit, grilled meats, and popular dishes like moo krata (Thai barbecue hot pot) keeping visitors well fed. The riverside setting offers pleasant views of the bridge, and live music adds to the atmosphere on some evenings, making it a relaxed option for winding down after a day of sightseeing in Kanchanaburi. Visitors should note that the market leans more toward food and drinks than shopping, with relatively few merchandise stalls reported. The riverbank setting and informal nightlife vibe attract a local crowd later in the evening, giving it a more authentic feel as the night progresses. Practically speaking, the market opens at 4 PM daily but tends to be quiet in the early hours, with atmosphere and vendor activity building later into the evening. Those arriving around 7 PM or later are more likely to find it lively. Weekend hours extend past midnight, making it a convenient late-night option. Given its outdoor riverbank location, light clothing and insect repellent are sensible choices, particularly in warmer months.

Visitor Reviews
Prisoner of War Camp Market is a lively themed market near the River Kwai Bridge, with food stalls, drinks, and a local nightlife vibe. A casual stop for street food and photos, especially in the evening.
Good selection of food, lovley veiws of the bridge and river. Not many normal stalls
Nice place to listen to some music and have a few drinks on the riverbank in view of the bridge. There is also food offerings. The moo krata seemed to be very popular. Late evenings appeared to attract loads of very intoxicated, rowdy teenagers, several of them regurgitating their earlier meals onto the ground. We knew it was then time to leave.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
