Krabi Night Markets

Krabi Town at the weekend, Ao Nang any night

By Mac Kiley · 6 min read · Updated Oct 24, 2026

Krabi has two night-market towns, and which one you want depends on the day. Krabi Town's Walking Street, the biggest market and the most local, runs only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ao Nang's Landmark Night Market, opposite Nopparat Thara Beach, runs every night and is where most people staying on the beach end up. Krabi Town also has the riverside Poo Dam market every evening, and both towns have small local markets that open for a few hours on one or two days a week.

Below is which market is on each night, how the two towns compare, what to eat and how to get back to Ao Nang before the last songthaew.

Key Facts

Krabi Town's big market is Friday to Sunday

The Walking Street on Maharat Soi 8 runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 17:00 to about 22:00. Monday to Thursday, the Poo Dam market by the river is the town's evening market.

Ao Nang's Landmark market is every night

It's opposite Nopparat Thara Beach, about 2 km up the beach road from the middle of Ao Nang. Stalls set up in the late afternoon and everything is cooking by about 18:00.

Go early

Between 17:00 and 18:00 the heat has eased, the lines are short and every stall is open. Food stalls start packing up from about 22:00.

Bring small notes

Most stalls take cash only. Thai dishes run about ฿70–100 at the Landmark market, and less at the Krabi Town and local markets.

Watch the last songthaew

The white songthaew between Ao Nang and Krabi Town costs ฿60 by day and ฿80 after 18:00. It runs until about 22:00 in high season but only in daylight in low season.

Sit in the right zone

The Landmark market's seating is zoned, with a beer zone by the bar and alcohol-free and halal zones elsewhere. Read the sign before you sit down with a Chang.

Krabi's Night Markets, Ranked

Ranked on the food, the size and how easily each one fits into a trip. The hours and prices come from our records and the markets' Google listings rather than my own visits, so check the day before you plan a night around one.

  1. 1. Krabi Town Walking Street, Krabi Town

    Best overall

The province's biggest night market, and the one where locals outnumber visitors. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 17:00 to about 22:00, Maharat Soi 8, the lane beside the Vogue department store, fills with food stalls selling Thai dishes in small portions, so you can try six things instead of committing to one. A stage in the middle has music and dance, often by local school groups.

The clothes and souvenir stalls are for browsing between plates. The food is the reason to come, with southern curries, grilled river prawns, coconut pancakes and very little over ฿100.

    Getting there
From Ao Nang, the white songthaew takes 25–30 minutes and costs ฿60, or ฿80 after 18:00. The songthaews back wait at the 7-Eleven on the corner of Soi 8 and Maharat Road, at the market itself.

  2. 2. Ao Nang Landmark Night Market, Ao Nang (Nopparat Thara)

    Best in Ao Nang

The big market in Ao Nang, open every night opposite Nopparat Thara Beach, beside the KFC in the Ao Nang Landmark complex. It's the one most people mean by "Ao Nang night market." The food side is cooking by about 18:00, with shared covered seating in the middle and live music on the stage. Most Thai dishes cost ฿70–100, five pork or chicken skewers about ฿100, rolled ice cream around ฿100 and a small beer ฿70–100, with pizza at about twice that.

Fire shows usually run on weekends, and the Ao Nang Landmark boxing stadium next door holds Muay Thai fight nights several times a week. I'd treat it as dinner rather than shopping, since the clothes rows carry the usual beach-town stock and prices climb in high season.

    Getting there
About 2 km up the beach road from the middle of Ao Nang beach, 20 to 30 minutes on foot, or ฿80–90 and under five minutes by Grab or tuk-tuk.

  3. 3. Poo Dam (Black Crab) Night Market, Krabi Town riverside

    Weeknights in town

Krabi Town's every-evening market, on Utarakit Road by the river, opposite the giant black crab sculpture that gives it its name (poo dam means black crab). It's a neighborhood market with grilled meats, noodles, snacks and sweets at prices set for people who live here, and it's the one to come to from Monday to Thursday, when the Walking Street is closed.

Turn up between 17:00 and 19:00, when the most stalls are open and the grills are busiest. By 21:30 you're picking over what's left. Expect to eat standing up and pay very little.

    Getting there
About 450 m north of the Walking Street along the river, a six-minute walk.

  4. 4. Night Market Place, Ao Nang

Closest to the Ao Nang strip

A smaller market nearer the Ao Nang strip than the Landmark, open every night from 17:00 to 22:00, with grilled seafood, noodles and tropical fruit, and clothes and handicraft stalls around them. Dishes start from about ฿80, and the crowd is a mix rather than all tourists.

Walk the whole length before you buy, then go back to whatever smelled best. Some stallholders push menus at you as you pass, which is the trade-off for the location.

  5. 5. City Night Market, Krabi Town (Maharat Soi 10)

    Open every day

One lane north of the Walking Street, this smaller market opens every day from late morning to 23:00, so it's the fallback in town on a weeknight or at lunchtime. Evenings from 18:00 to 22:00 are the liveliest.

The stall with pink handwritten signs and walls covered in notes from visitors is the famous one, for fried fish and steamed fish with ginger, and waits of up to an hour have been reported at busy times.

  6. 6. Ao Nang Wednesday Night Market, Ao Nang

    The local one

For four hours every Wednesday, from 16:00 to 20:00, the stretch beside the 7-Eleven turns into a market where most of the crowd lives in Ao Nang. Reviewers who've compared it with the Landmark say the food costs half or less and the cooking is more traditional. There are clothes, shoes and toys too.

It's one long row, so when it fills up, foot traffic moves both ways down a single lane. Go between 16:00 and 17:00.

    Saturday afternoon

Saturdays only, 15:00 to 19:00, near the mosque in the Klong Haeng area of Ao Nang, with a mostly local crowd doing their actual shopping. Crispy fried chicken, Thai snacks and a run of sweets you won't be able to name, plus clothes, produce and handicrafts, at local rather than beachfront prices.

  8. 8. Ao Nang Local Market, Ao Nang

    Cheapest cooked food

An afternoon market for people who live in Ao Nang, on Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 13:30 to 19:00. Fresh produce, seafood and meat, with barbecue and cooked meals for under ฿100 a head. Reviewers who've compared it with the tourist night market put prices at about half.

  9. 9. Blue Mountain Market, Ao Nang (Soi Ao Nang 15)

    The newest

A newer market at the top end of the Ao Nang strip, opened in 2025 and listed every night from 17:00 to 23:00, with stalls cooking Thai dishes to order, beer at about half the Landmark's price and a free fire show. It's walkable from most strip hotels.

One travel blog found only 10 to 15 of its stalls open on a low-season Friday in May 2026, so in the rainy months I'd check it's busy before planning dinner around it.

Krabi Town or Ao Nang?

If you're in Krabi on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, make the trip to Krabi Town's Walking Street. It's bigger and cheaper, and the crowd is mostly local, which shows in the food. On a weeknight, if you're staying in Ao Nang, the Landmark market is the easy choice. It's open every night and five minutes away by Grab, with seating, a bar and a stage.

The Landmark is the more comfortable evening, with covered seating, cold beer and a fire show at weekends. The Walking Street is the better meal. Staying in Krabi Town turns the question around, since the Walking Street and Poo Dam are on your doorstep and Ao Nang is the ride away.

What to Eat

The Krabi Town markets lean southern Thai, with curries, grilled river prawns and khanom krok, the little coconut pancakes cooked in a dimpled pan. Across all the markets you'll find pork and chicken skewers, som tam, pad thai, roti, mango sticky rice, fresh fruit shakes and rolled ice cream. The Landmark adds sushi, pizza, Indian food and Korean fried chicken for anyone who's had enough rice.

Krabi has a large Muslim community, so many stalls are halal, and the Landmark marks halal and alcohol-free zones in its seating. Stick to food cooked in front of you, like grilled fish, skewers and stir-fried noodles, since hygiene varies from stall to stall.

Getting to Krabi Town From Ao Nang

Krabi Town is about 18 km from Ao Nang, 25–30 minutes on the road. White songthaews run between them for ฿60 by day and ฿80 after 18:00, and they wait for the trip back at the 7-Eleven on the corner of Soi 8 and Maharat Road, at the Walking Street itself. In high season they run until about 22:00, which is when the market winds down. In low season they run only in daylight, so the ride back needs a Grab, about ฿250–300 one way.

Tour desks in Ao Nang also sell a market run for about ฿250 return, picking you up at 18:00 and bringing you back at 21:00. That's the easy option if you don't want to watch the clock.

Night Markets With Kids

Both big markets work for families. The Landmark has an inflatable slide, a small fairground ride, kids' electric cars to hire and sideshow games at the back, plus the weekend fire show, which is better watched from a few rows back. The Walking Street has its stage, often with local school groups performing. Both get crowded after 19:00, so agree on a meeting point with older kids.

Morning Markets

To see where Krabi does its own shopping, go in the morning. Maharaj Market, off Maharat Road in Krabi Town, opens at 05:00, and by 10:00 a good number of stalls are packing away. The first hours are when the seafood counters are full and the cooked-food stalls are serving southern Thai dishes to people on their way to work. Signs are mostly in Thai, and pointing works fine. Talad Kao, near the bus terminal north of town, runs from 04:00 to 18:00 with fruit, vegetables, seafood and ready-to-eat food.

The big one, the Walking Street in Krabi Town, runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 17:00 to about 22:00. Ao Nang's Landmark Night Market and Krabi Town's riverside Poo Dam market are open every evening.

In Krabi Town, the Poo Dam market by the river every evening, and the City Night Market on Maharat Soi 10 every day until 23:00. In Ao Nang, the Landmark, Night Market Place and Blue Mountain open every night, and the local Wednesday market runs from 16:00 to 20:00.

For food, yes. Krabi Town's Walking Street is bigger, cheaper and mostly local, but it runs only Friday to Sunday. Ao Nang's Landmark market is smaller and more touristy, with better seating and a bar, and it's open every night.

On Maharat Soi 8 in the center of Krabi Town, the lane beside the Vogue department store. It's in Krabi Town, not Ao Nang, which is 25–30 minutes away by songthaew.

Take the white songthaew, ฿60 by day or ฿80 after 18:00, about 25–30 minutes. In high season the last one back leaves around 22:00, and in low season they stop at dark, so plan on a Grab back at about ฿250–300. Tour desks also sell a ฿250 return run, 18:00 to 21:00.

About ฿300–400 a person covers three dishes and a drink at the Landmark, where most Thai dishes are ฿70–100 and a small beer ฿70–100. The Krabi Town and local markets cost less. Bring small notes, as most stalls take cash only.

Yes. The Landmark has an inflatable slide, fairground rides, kids' electric cars and a weekend fire show, and the Walking Street has a stage with music and dance. Both get crowded after 19:00.

Railay's evening is the Walking Street on the east side, a strip of restaurants and bars rather than a market. When I stayed on Railay, that's where we mostly ate. For a market, take a longtail to Ao Nang, ฿100 until about 18:00 and ฿150 after dark.
