Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

4.8(893 reviews)

Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve occupies a secluded stretch of Krabi's Andaman coastline, framed by limestone karsts and tropical greenery. The property operates on a villa-based model, with spacious, well-maintained accommodations — including categories such as the Royal Villa — designed to prioritise privacy, natural light, and direct connection to the surrounding landscape. Personalised butler service is a defining feature of the stay, and the resort also functions as an event and wedding venue, making it a popular choice for milestone occasions alongside leisure travel. Guests have access to a full-service spa, multiple dining options with a standout breakfast noted by frequent visitors, and what many describe as an exceptionally designed pool. The resort serves as a practical base for exploring the wider Krabi region, with excursions available to nearby Phi Phi Islands and James Bond Island, as well as water sports and guided coastal activities on offer. Good to know: The Krabi region sees its most settled weather between November and April, with lower humidity and minimal rainfall — the most reliable window for beach and island activities. Phulay Bay sits at the premium end of the market, so prospective guests should budget accordingly and book well in advance for peak-season travel, particularly for specific villa types. The resort's relatively remote location along the Krabi coast means most dining and activities are best arranged through the property itself.

Visitor Reviews

How does one begin to describe the best beach hotel they have ever stayed at? Phulay Bay, my first Ritz-Carlton Reserve experience, not only met but significantly exceeded my expectations. From the moment of airport pickup, the tone for the stay is set. Guests are welcomed into a luxury vehicle equipped with Wi-Fi and television, offered chilled orange juice and cold towels—an introduction to the thoughtful, refined service that defines the entire experience. Upon arrival at the property, guests are welcomed at the main lobby pavilion, an impressive wooden structure surrounded by shallow reflecting pools and, in the evening, thousands of illuminated candles. Walking along elevated steps over the water toward the center of the pavilion feels ceremonial. Here, guests receive a second round of cold towels, a welcome drink, and a floral bracelet—an exceptionally memorable arrival. At this point, I was introduced to my personal butler, Sandy, who truly became the highlight of my stay. Sandy’s attention to detail, constant availability, and proactive communication elevated the experience to near perfection. From arranging activities and dining reservations to coordinating spa appointments, managing check-in and check-out, and ensuring a seamless transfer to my next hotel, she handled every detail flawlessly. Her service was exceptional, and she perfectly embodied the level of care this property represents. That said, the excellence extended far beyond one individual. Every member of the staff delivered outstanding service—from the breakfast team and food attendants, to the pool staff who consistently ensured drinks were replenished, to the sunset bar bartender crafting impeccable espresso martinis, and the attentive team at the upper-level bar serving outstanding cocktails. Every interaction felt genuine, warm, and thoughtful. My accommodation was equally impressive. I was upgraded to a beachfront pool villa, which was absolutely stunning. The villa featured a spacious private pool, direct access to the beach area, and a convenient location close to the main pool and restaurant—minimizing the need for golf cart transportation, though carts were always promptly available. The room was exceptionally comfortable, cooled quickly in the evenings, and impeccably maintained. The infinity pool offers breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea and surrounding islands, including the iconic Hong Island. A complimentary round-trip boat transfer to Hong Island is offered daily, a wonderful added benefit. The pool area itself is spacious, with ample daybeds and plenty of room to relax. I would strongly recommend staying a minimum of three nights. We stayed for two and immediately wished we had planned for at least one additional night—if not more. Phulay Bay is a truly special destination that deserves time to be fully appreciated. I have no doubt that I will return to Phulay Bay, and I already look forward to coming back in 2027.

Writing this review a little late in the day and wish I could give it 10/10. It’s the best resort we have ever stayed at anywhere in the world and we love it so much we go back every year for the past three years. In fact this resort is now our benchmark to judge every other resort and hotel we stay at. The quality of the service really comes from the top of the management. The GM Sagar is friendly, present, engaging, treats his staff very well and in an empowering way from what we see and that shows ultimately in the way the staff treats the guests. Khun Kwan, khun Bua, the Sritrang hostesses, everyone from the restaurant side, khun Tanya at guest reception are exceptional people and it’s for them that we keep going back. They all go out of their way to make you feel really at home and not like you’re there for a transactional holiday. Whether it’s preparing special dishes at breakfast or really taking time off their duties to come to you and speak to you. They even remember random details you mentioned from your last visit and bring it up in conversation. There’s no stone left unturned in the way the guests are treated. The villas are great and huge and well maintained. Perhaps a bit too large but that’s a design feature. The beach is kind of non-existent but the villa pools are excellent and the main infinity pool is so big and well staffed you’ll feel well attended to. The butlers are sometimes a bit of a hit and miss but unless you’re the kind who needs someone following you around or booking several activities for you, they’re quite responsive for general needs. The food is excellent. We wait all year to eat at SriTrang. Every other resort should learn from Sagar and his staff how hospitality should be done. Looking forward to visiting this year .

An absolutely incredible hotel. Truly exceptional. The rooms are huge, beautifully maintained, and offer a perfect balance of luxury and privacy from the very first moment. Breakfast is outstanding – wide selection, top-quality ingredients, and every detail carefully executed. The dining experience at the hotel restaurants is equally impressive – amazing flavors, presentation, and flawless service. What makes this property truly unique is its concept – there is no traditional reception. Everything happens in the comfort of your room, ensuring complete privacy. Each family is assigned a private butler. We were fortunate to have Angela – an extraordinary person with the most genuine and beautiful smile. Her warmth, professionalism, and positive energy had a real impact on our stay. We are honestly amazed at how much one person can elevate the entire hotel experience. The entire staff is exceptional – highly professional yet sincerely kind. The hotel feels incredibly private; at times, you truly feel like you are alone on a secluded island. We rarely consider returning to the same place… but this is one of those rare exceptions where we absolutely might.

Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts

Book Shoulder Season

May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.

Compare OTAs and Direct Rates

Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.

Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive

Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
