Why go, and how to do it well
Come here for the water, not the scene. It's a compact cove on Koh Tao, hemmed in by greenery and rock, with soft sand and shallow, clear water that stays calm enough for easy swimming. Bring a mask. The snorkeling close to shore is the main reason to make the trip, and the enclosed shape of the bay means you're not fighting chop or boat wake.
Because it's small, it fills up fast, and a handful of people can make it feel busy in a way that a long beach never would. Early morning is my advice, before the day-trippers arrive and while the light is still soft. There's no organized activity to speak of, which is rather the point. Half a day is about right, an afternoon if you're happy to do nothing but float and read.
