Mountain Cooking
Tucked away in Ao Nang, this small and unpretentious cooking spot has earned a loyal following among locals and travellers alike for its honest, flavour-forward Thai food. Visitors consistently praise the quality and authenticity of the dishes, with the green curry and fried rice drawing particular attention as standout plates. The atmosphere is cozy and informal, with a hands-on, personal quality that sets it apart from the busier tourist-facing restaurants closer to Ao Nang's main strip. The operation runs on a small scale, with much of the cooking handled by a single dedicated cook, which means every dish receives genuine attention. Portions are generous and prices are considered fair, especially by Ao Nang standards. Reviewers who know the area well point to this spot as a more rewarding alternative to the heavily commercialised dining options downtown. Because the kitchen operates with limited staff, groups should come prepared for a longer wait, particularly during busy periods — patience is well rewarded. No website or published opening hours are currently available, so it is worth calling ahead or visiting in person to confirm hours before making the trip. The address places it at 383 Moo 2, Ao Nang, making it a short journey from the main beachfront area but well worth the extra effort for travellers seeking a more authentic dining experience.

Visitor Reviews
Hands down best Thai food in Ao Nang. Great prices I'm local to the area. Most other places are tourist traps especially downtown. It's worth the effort to come up here because it will blow you away. Every single dish is spectacular. I've eaten in Michelin starred Restaurants and yes the presentation is better and service is impeccable. But after all it's about the food and hand to God this place is got the food nailed. Simple fresh and perfect.
Delicious food, generous portions, friendly service. The green curry was the standout. 🤤 Lovely atmosphere. We’ll be back. 🙏
Small and cozy restaurant, the waiter is really great master and as a result the food was super delicious!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
