Authentic Thai Cooking, Krabi
Run by a friendly local family in Ao Nang, this cooking school offers immersive, hands-on classes where participants learn to prepare authentic Thai dishes using traditional techniques and fresh ingredients. Instructor New has earned particular praise from visitors for her warm, welcoming manner and her ability to make the experience both educational and genuinely enjoyable. Classes are structured around choice, allowing participants to select from a menu of dishes rather than following a fixed programme — a detail that keeps the experience personal and flexible. The class options vary in scope, with some including a local market visit alongside the cooking session. Participants prepare and eat what they cook, leaving with practical skills and recipes they can recreate at home. The family also offers pick-up from accommodation, making logistics straightforward for travellers based in and around Ao Nang. The atmosphere is relaxed and social, suited to beginners and those with some cooking experience alike. Good to know: No website or listed booking hours are available online, so contacting the school directly to confirm availability and class options before arrival is strongly advised. Classes are popular and tend to fill up, particularly during high season, so early booking is recommended. Wear comfortable clothing you don't mind getting splashed, and closed-toe shoes are sensible given the time spent standing near heat sources.

Visitor Reviews
I truly recommend the cooking classes with New — everything was absolutely perfect. New is incredibly kind and welcoming. We chose the option with 5 dishes plus a market visit, and it was amazing. The whole experience is absolutely worth it. It was the most affordable cooking class in Krabi, yet everything was spotless and very well organized. New picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off afterward. It was my birthday, and New even took the time to stop at 7-Eleven to buy me a cake and a small gift — a gesture that truly touched my heart. Thank you so much for everything !!
An amazing cooking class, where we learnt how to make 3 iconic Thai dishes. The family running the class were so lovely, extremely accommodating and even offered to pick us up from our accommodation. As well as delicious food, the effort and service were incredible - would really recommend to anyone visiting Thailand. We even walked away with a 28 page recipe book on PDF. Thank you so much!!
Super fun and easy class! And you leave with a full stomach. Our instructor New, was so sweet and funny. She took our photos and gave us 3 out of 6 options for meals to make. You get to choose your own. I booked the class on GetYourGuide. Everything was clean and prepped for us, so I appreciated that.
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
