Authentic Thai Cooking, Krabi

5.0(191 reviews)

Run by a friendly local family in Ao Nang, this cooking school offers immersive, hands-on classes where participants learn to prepare authentic Thai dishes using traditional techniques and fresh ingredients. Instructor New has earned particular praise from visitors for her warm, welcoming manner and her ability to make the experience both educational and genuinely enjoyable. Classes are structured around choice, allowing participants to select from a menu of dishes rather than following a fixed programme — a detail that keeps the experience personal and flexible.

The class options vary in scope, with some including a local market visit alongside the cooking session. Participants prepare and eat what they cook, leaving with practical skills and recipes they can recreate at home. The family also offers pick-up from accommodation, making logistics straightforward for travellers based in and around Ao Nang. The atmosphere is relaxed and social, suited to beginners and those with some cooking experience alike.

Reviews from Google

I truly recommend the cooking classes with New — everything was absolutely perfect. New is incredibly kind and welcoming. We chose the option with 5 dishes plus a market visit, and it was amazing. The whole experience is absolutely worth it. It was the most affordable cooking class in Krabi, yet everything was spotless and very well organized. New picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off afterward. It was my birthday, and New even took the time to stop at 7-Eleven to buy me a cake and a small gift — a gesture that truly touched my heart. Thank you so much for everything !!

Super fun and easy class! And you leave with a full stomach. Our instructor New, was so sweet and funny. She took our photos and gave us 3 out of 6 options for meals to make. You get to choose your own. I booked the class on GetYourGuide. Everything was clean and prepped for us, so I appreciated that.

What a disappointment, i really dont understand the good reviews… not only it was the worst cooking class we have attended (we have been to three already), it was the worst food we have eaten in Thailand. we were supposed to make Tom kha gai, pad kra pao, cashew chicken and mango sticky rice, none of the dishes were close to how they are supposed to be, ingredients were wrong and taste was off! first of all, for the tom kha gai, the school was stingy with coconut milk that the whole soup look so watery with none of the flavour a tom kha gai should have, we had to ask them to put more coconut milk and it still tasted horrible. i was so upset that i didnt even take a picture of it secondly, cashew chicken is literally just stir fried vegetables with chicken and few pieces of cashews. thirdly, pad kra pao was literally stir fried chicken with so much onion! garlic was missing, dark soy sauce was missing, egg was missing, sugar was missing, etc… its ridiculous!! you can see it from the picture, it has nothing to do with pad kra pao lastly, mango sticky rice was so soaked with the coconut “sauce”, it became like a congee.. just see the picture yourself.. also, the whole time the chef kept asking us to put mushroom powder which is so unnecessary and even tho he kept saying its not MSG, it certainly tastes like one. honestly we have been traveling in Thailand for so long, and i cook a lot of Thai dishes at home too. i thought we could join a cooking class for fun and were so disappointed. this is not what a cooking school should be delivering, this is not authentic Thai.. what a shame..

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
