Phi phi Viewpoint 1

4.6(5,710 reviews)

Perched high above Koh Phi Phi Don, this elevated viewpoint delivers sweeping panoramic views across the island's iconic twin bays, jagged limestone karsts, and the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea — scenery that has made the Phi Phi Islands one of Thailand's most photographed destinations. It sits at the start of a trail that continues upward to Viewpoint 2, making it a natural first stop for those tackling the full climb. Reaching the top requires ascending a series of steep stairs, a genuine workout in the tropical heat, but visitors consistently find the effort worthwhile. A restaurant at the summit offers a place to rest and take in the scenery, and guests are free to linger as long as they like. The atmosphere is unhurried, though the site draws a steady flow of visitors throughout the day. Those with energy to spare are well rewarded by continuing to Viewpoint 2, which visitors describe as offering even broader vistas. Good to know: There is a 50 THB entrance fee payable in cash only at the gate, so arriving with small notes is advisable. Alcohol is not permitted inside the viewpoint area. Grippy, comfortable footwear is strongly recommended given the steep and potentially slippery stairs. Visiting early in the morning helps beat both the heat and the crowds while offering the clearest views. The viewpoint is most commonly reached by boat from Krabi or Ao Nang, with speedboat day trips a popular option.

Reviews from Google

Wow — this climb is no joke, but it’s 100% worth it. The views at the top are unreal and easily one of the best things we did on the Phi Phi Islands. There’s even a restaurant up there that’s a great spot to grab lunch and take a break (we were rushing to catch our ferry, otherwise we would’ve stayed longer). As someone who actually enjoys hiking, I loved having something challenging to do instead of just hanging on the beach the whole time. Quick warning though: the hike down is just as tough as the hike up… your knees and thighs will definitely feel it 😂 Highly recommend making the time for this one.

Absolutely stunning. Worth every minute of climbing and sweating. You can stay as long as you'd like. There are other viewpoints to experience as well so keep that in mind. BE PREPARED because there are a lot of steps and even for a person such as myself that is in fairly great shape, it can be a bit tiring with the combination of the heat. I'd recommend going early morning and watching the sun bless the island with an awakening! The views are absolutely stunning. Simply breathtaking. There's no need to rush through there is a lot to see.

Good to go this track with stairway, have to take some time and once you reach entrance of viewpoint 1 there is 50 thb fee in cash only. No alcohol inside but can leave with the guy at the entrance and when you come back down can still get it back. To go to viewpoint 2 you just continue your way up to that place from viewpoint 1 for like 10/15 mins depends on how strong you are , this viewpoint 1 is ok but not so impressive —- see my 2nd review in viewpoint 2 location 💪🏼

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
