Aromdii Cookery School
Aromdii Cookery School offers an immersive introduction to Northern Thai cuisine through structured, hands-on classes that take participants from local market to dining table. Led by instructors including Aek and Nok, classes begin with a guided market visit where students source fresh ingredients before moving to the kitchen to prepare around five dishes from scratch. The experience runs approximately three to four hours and includes hotel pick-up, making it a convenient full experience rather than just a standalone class. The school caters to all skill levels, and the format encourages every participant to prepare their own dishes individually rather than working as a group, ensuring everyone leaves with practical, replicable skills. The combination of market education, cooking instruction, and tasting makes it a well-rounded activity for travellers interested in Thai food culture beyond restaurant dining. The school is located in the Chang Khlan area of Chiang Mai, close to the city's cultural centre. Good to know: Classes run every day of the week from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, offering flexible scheduling for travellers with busy itineraries. Given consistent demand, booking ahead through aromdiicooking.com is strongly advised, particularly during peak tourist seasons. Comfortable, casual clothing and closed-toe shoes are practical choices, as the class involves standing, moving between the market and kitchen, and active cooking throughout.

Visitor Reviews
Absolutely loved our time learning to cook authentic Thai food with Aek! We visited the market, learned about the foods you can find there, purchased everything needed for our class, and headed to the cooking school where we made 5 dishes and enjoyed them throughout the evening. Come hungry!! Aek does a wonderful job of sharing about his culture while teaching, even explaining the differences in tastes and traditions from where he grew up versus where his wife is from. Myself, my husband and two college kids all had a wonderful evening. Shortly after being dropped off at our hotel Aek sent us all of the recipes we’d made so we can go home and make them again. Thank you so much, this was a highlight of our time in Chiang Mai. If you’re looking to take a cooking class, book with Aromdii Cookery School!
I’d highly recommend this, especially if you love Thai food and want to take some recipes home. The tour was brilliantly organised, from the hotel pick-up, to going to the market and then their home for the class. You learn how to prepare all the ingredients from fresh and then cook at your own wok station. There is a lot of delicious food to cook so make sure you go on an empty stomach. Given you get so much food and how well it’s organised and catered for, I think it’s a bargain at 800 baht per person. There were no issues at all with arranging alternatives for vegan and vegetarian diets. Thanks to Aek and his wife for arranging this!
This was truly an amazing experience. My wife and I enjoyed sourcing, preparing, cooking (and then eating!) all the delicious Thai food that we learnt. 10/10 will definitely return if we are ever in Chiang Mai again. Our host, Aek, was exceptional! He thought us, entertained us, and gave us a great memory to take home. Such a genuine nice man and highly entertaining. This was the highlight of our trip to Chiang Mai. Thank you!

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
