Co van Kessel Bangkok Tours (River City)

4.9(4,271 reviews)

Do this in your first few days in Bangkok, not your last. Cycling through the old town's backstreets and then switching to a longboat on the canals rewires how you read the city, and it's the kind of route almost nobody pieces together on their own. Groups stay small, around ten, with two guides riding front and back. Reviewers keep naming them individually, which tells you something about how much the guiding carries the experience.

The three-hour bike tour is the one most people mention, with a temple stop, a flower market, and a refreshment break where local snacks get passed around. Longer options add a family-style lunch at a riverside restaurant, tom yum included. One reviewer put the three-hour tour at 1,250 baht and called it pricey by Thai standards. It is, next to a street-level day out. It's also not really comparable to one.

Solo travellers get grouped with other solos on purpose, which makes for easy company rather than an awkward tag-along.

Reviews from Google

We had a great time on the 3 hour bike tour through the old town. Our guides Chai and Wit made sure everyone was safe and Chai spoke English very well. We did some nice sightseeing and had a rest stop where drinks and local snacks were accommodated. One of the bycicles got a flat tire, but hero Wit switched his bike and made sure the show could go on! Overall we definitely recommend booking this bike tour with co van Kessel. #covankessel #wit #chai #wehadagoodtime #bangkok #thankyou

I can't recommend this tour enough! It really was the highlight of our Bangkok trip. The company is extremely professional, the bikes very comfortable and the itinerary spot on to give you a sense of old Bangkok and the local community. Earth and Cat were fabulous guides who couldn't do enough for us. One of the best trips I have ever done and would do again and again!

I really liked the Co van Kessel tour. I was traveling solo and they deliberately put me in a group with a few other solo travelers (group consisted of some Dutch, Belgians, and a German). That was a nice touch and it made for a good atmosphere. You get to see a different side of Bangkok that you wouldn't easily see as a regular tourist. Definitely recommend doing this at the beginning of your trip. For Thai standards, I did find it quite pricey(1250THB). I did the 3-hour bike tour and along the way we stopped to buy some local snacks and fruit (all included). The local guides know Bangkok very well. It was actually pretty funny to see the frustration of other walking tourists when we arrived at a tiny local market with 10 bicycles. The locals don't really care, they just smile and find it funny to see. One quick tip: make sure to bring some sunscreen, as it gets quite hot on the bike

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
