Red Chilli Ao Nang, Thai Cuisine

4.8(1,509 reviews)

Tucked along Thanon Khlong Hang in Ao Nang, Red Chilli Thai Cuisine has earned a devoted following among travellers and locals alike for serving genuinely authentic Thai food in an area where tourist-friendly adaptations are common. The kitchen accommodates spice preferences on request, making it accessible to those with milder palates without sacrificing the depth of flavour that defines the cooking. The combination of honest, well-executed dishes and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a natural choice for those seeking something beyond the typical resort-town dining experience. The menu covers classic Thai dishes, with several items drawing consistent praise from returning visitors. The Tod Man Khao Pod (corn fritters) and roti with peanut sauce are popular starters, while the Pad Kra Pao and cashew chicken are frequently highlighted as standout mains. Staff are regularly noted for attentive, genuinely warm service that contributes as much to the experience as the food itself. Solo diners, couples, and groups all tend to find the setting relaxed and comfortable. Good to know: Red Chilli opens daily at 1:00 PM and serves until 10:00 PM with no days off during the week. Arriving shortly after opening allows for a quieter experience before the evening rush builds. During peak holiday periods, coming early is advisable. Check the restaurant's Facebook page before visiting for any updates to hours or menu changes.

Visitor Reviews

Okay this is the BEST place, I am still dreaming of it. We went there twice!! First off the staff are the kindest, sweetest most thoughtful and friendly people, service is 10/10 and beyond. Next the food is delicious and beautifully presented, the atmosphere is wonderful with beautiful plants and music. Drinks are incredible the Thai milk tea is wow and has a cute flower in it. Deserts are also super yummy we all tried each one, surprisingly the deep fried banana one was my favorite! The first night I ordered pad Thai and the second night the green curry which I asked for little spice and still was dying lol I had to add ice cubes from my drink into it to make it cold so I could eat it. Also my friend is celiac and they were so accommodating and asked great questions we were all super impressed with their knowledge and understanding and support of allergies. Would definitely recommend this spot and would love to come back one day. It’s also located down from the markets which is great so we would walk there after and then to the beach. Also prices were decent for how amazing everything is.

Absolutely amazing place in Ao Nang! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ From the moment you walk in, you can feel the great atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and they really take care of you. The service is fast, professional, and always with a smile. The food is simply outstanding – fresh ingredients, perfect flavors, and beautifully presented dishes. You can really tell that everything is prepared with care and passion. Every meal we tried was delicious and full of authentic Thai taste. The location is also fantastic, with a great vibe that makes you want to stay longer and enjoy the evening. Whether you come for lunch or dinner, the whole experience is just perfect. Without a doubt this is the best restaurant in Ao Nang. If you are visiting the area, you absolutely must come here. Highly recommended – we will definitely come back! 🙌

Went back to this place twice it was so good. One of the better places to eat in Ao Nang if you want authentic Thai. The first time we got the roti with peanut sauce, phad Kra Pao moo and cashew chicken with banana fritters for dessert. The banana fritters are a must try! The second time we got the spring rolls to start, with a pad Thai and green curry. All the food was delicious and they will adjust the spice to your liking. Bug spray on the tables as it’s outdoors and all the staff are extremely friendly and polite. Would highly recommend.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
