On’s Thai-Issan Vegan
On's Thai-Issan Vegan has earned a devoted following among travellers seeking genuinely authentic plant-based Thai food in Kanchanaburi. The kitchen specialises in northeastern Thai cuisine — bold, herb-forward dishes rooted in Issan tradition — adapted entirely for vegan diets without sacrificing depth of flavour. The Massaman curry draws particular praise from visitors, and generous portion sizes at budget prices make it an appealing stop for travellers of all budgets. The atmosphere is warm and family-oriented, with owner On frequently present and known for her hospitality and passion for the food she serves. Beyond dining, the restaurant also offers cooking classes where On teaches hands-on techniques, making it a worthwhile experience for those wanting to bring Thai cooking skills home. The menu caters well to those avoiding animal products entirely, though diners who are simply curious about plant-based Thai cuisine will find plenty to enjoy. Located on Mae Nam Kwai Road, the restaurant is open daily from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM with no weekly closures, making it easy to fit into any itinerary. Given its popularity, arriving during off-peak hours — before noon or mid-afternoon — can help avoid a wait. Those interested in booking a cooking class should check the Facebook page in advance, as class availability may require prior arrangement.

Visitor Reviews
Have eaten here several times and always enjoy it. Recently attended the cooking class and highly recommend. On is an excellent teacher who presents information clearly. You get hands on straight away, making several dishes. On tailors the class to your request, there's plenty of time to eat and enjoy the wonderful flavours. Everything is vegetarian, with lots of really great vegan options also. To top it off On is super friendly and sweet, giving you recipes at the end and letting you know that you're always welcome to come back for further questions or even ingredients. Had a great time and will recommend to others. The cooking class is also very reasonably priced as you get to eat the dishes you make or can take them home with you . Definitely come on am empty stomach!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
