On’s Thai-Issan Vegan
A dedicated vegan restaurant on Mae Nam Kwai Road, On's Thai-Issan Vegan specialises in northeastern Thai cuisine — herb-forward, flavour-rich dishes rooted in Issan tradition, prepared entirely without animal products. The Massaman curry is a standout that draws repeat visitors, and generous portion sizes at budget-friendly prices make it accessible for all types of travellers, whether they follow a plant-based diet or are simply curious about vegan Thai cooking. The atmosphere is warm and family-oriented, with owner On regularly present in the restaurant. Her passion for the food she serves is evident, and her welcoming approach has contributed to the restaurant's loyal following among travellers passing through Kanchanaburi. Beyond the menu, On also runs hands-on cooking classes where guests learn authentic Thai techniques directly from her — a practical and engaging experience for those hoping to recreate these dishes at home. The classes are well-regarded by participants and worth considering as a standalone reason to visit. The restaurant is open every day of the week from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, making it straightforward to include in any itinerary. Given its popularity with visitors to the area, arriving before noon or during mid-afternoon tends to be quieter. Those interested in joining a cooking class should check the Facebook page in advance, as sessions may need to be arranged ahead of time.

Visitor Reviews
Have eaten here several times and always enjoy it. Recently attended the cooking class and highly recommend. On is an excellent teacher who presents information clearly. You get hands on straight away, making several dishes. On tailors the class to your request, there's plenty of time to eat and enjoy the wonderful flavours. Everything is vegetarian, with lots of really great vegan options also. To top it off On is super friendly and sweet, giving you recipes at the end and letting you know that you're always welcome to come back for further questions or even ingredients. Had a great time and will recommend to others. The cooking class is also very reasonably priced as you get to eat the dishes you make or can take them home with you . Definitely come on am empty stomach!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
