Grand Chaopraya
Perched along the Chao Phraya River in Ayutthaya's historic district, this Michelin Guide-recognised Thai restaurant draws a steady crowd with its riverfront setting and a menu centred on freshwater seafood. The charcoal-grilled river prawns are the standout draw — frequently praised for their freshness, size, and the smoky depth that comes from real charcoal grilling. River fish and a broad range of traditional Thai dishes round out the menu, with generous portion sizes that sit comfortably within mid-range pricing. The atmosphere is relaxed and scenic, with river views greeting diners on arrival. The picture-heavy menu makes ordering straightforward for first-time visitors unfamiliar with Thai dishes. It is worth noting that the restaurant leans heavily into its Michelin Guide recognition — the signage reflects this prominently — and some visitors find the enthusiasm for the accolade more noticeable than the decor itself. The service experience has drawn mixed feedback from visitors, so expectations on that front are worth keeping measured. Good to know: The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, which works well for travellers fitting a meal around Ayutthaya's temple circuit. Visiting during mid-afternoon helps avoid the busiest lunch and dinner rushes. The Facebook page listed is the primary online presence and is worth checking ahead of time for any updates on seasonal seafood availability.

Visitor Reviews
A fantastic restaurant that almost speaks a bit too loudly about their listing in the Michelin guide of recommended restaurants. The Michelin sign is bigger than the actual restaurant sign - which is weird, because the place is excellent and wouldn’t need to do that. All dishes (mostly seafood) that we tried were amazing. Sitting by the river makes for a special atmosphere. The river prawn is of course the star here, but so is the other seafood. Also, I wasn’t happy to see that they offer gifts (a free dessert or something) to people who review the restaurant and show the review to the waitstaff. Needless to say, I didn’t accept the offer - and per my policy, I usually subtract one star from the rating of any property that does that. I didn’t do it in this case because the place is so good. There would be no need to bribe reviewers because the quality here speaks for itself. Reviews should be honest and a restaurant should speak by the quality of their food, not by their gifts to reviewers.
I truly believe are the best grilled river prawns in Bangkok and Ayutthaya. The prawns are incredibly fresh, perfectly sized, and grilled over real charcoal, which gives them a deep, smoky aroma that you can smell before they even reach the table. The texture is outstanding — firm, sweet, and juicy — and the natural flavor of the prawn is beautifully preserved. Paired with their seafood dipping sauce, every bite is rich, balanced, and unforgettable. The riverside atmosphere adds to the overall experience, making it perfect for special occasions or hosting guests. This place absolutely deserves Michelin recognition for the quality, consistency, and attention to detail in their grilling technique.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
