Malar Thai-Indian Cuisine

4.9(405 reviews)

Tucked along Soi Samsen 4 in the Phra Nakhon district, this Thai-Indian restaurant has built a devoted following for its deeply flavoured Indian cooking. Dishes like butter chicken, chicken biryani, and chicken tikka masala draw consistent praise for their authenticity and aromatic spice blends, while the garlic naan and butter naan are frequently highlighted as standout accompaniments. The kitchen also accommodates dietary preferences and spice tolerances on request, making it accessible to a wide range of diners. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with staff regularly noted for their friendliness and attentiveness. Portions appear generous and pricing is considered affordable, offering strong value for the quality on offer. The restaurant draws both locals and travellers, with some visitors making a point of returning multiple times during a single trip despite the distance from their accommodation. Good to know: Malar Thai-Indian Cuisine is open seven days a week from 10am to 10pm, giving plenty of flexibility for both lunch and dinner visits. The Soi Samsen 4 address can be tricky to locate using navigation apps, so it is worth saving the full Thai address before heading out or showing it to a taxi or tuk-tuk driver. No website is listed, so reservations may not be available in advance, meaning an earlier arrival is advisable during peak meal times.

Amazing Indian restaurant! I asked for my dish not spicy at all (because spicy food doesn’t agree with me), and they were incredibly kind and attentive to my request. They made me a Butter Paneer that was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had- rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced in flavor. It was absolutely delicious. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was lovely, and everyone here is super friendly and welcoming. I’m very happy with my experience and highly recommend this place! 🍛✨

The food here is just SO good, the spices are super aromatic, and every bite is packed with flavor. We literally went back twice, even though our Airbnb was pretty far, that's how worth it it is. 10/10 would definitely come back again! 🤩

Best Indian food in Bangkok and it’s not even close! Super authentic! The staff are very friendly and the quality is amazing! I got the chicken tikki masala , garlic naan , and rice and was very happy with it. Here’s a pic. Will be back!!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
