BeBe Spice Indian Restaurant and Wok 'N Roll Thai Cooking Course

4.7(373 reviews)

This combined cooking school and restaurant in the hillside town of Pai offers a genuinely hands-on introduction to Thai cuisine, with classes led by chef Thom, whose knowledge, warmth, and humour are consistently highlighted by visitors. What sets the experience apart is the market visit built into the class — participants explore a local market with Thom before cooking, learning about the ingredients, their history, and how to select them, before returning to prepare dishes from scratch. The course covers a broad range of Thai cooking fundamentals including stir-fries, curries, soups, salads, and desserts, giving participants a well-rounded skillset to take home. The venue also operates as a restaurant serving both Thai and Indian food, with vegetarian and vegan options available, making it a flexible stop for those who want to dine rather than cook. The atmosphere is informal and personal, more intimate teaching kitchen than commercial cookery school, which suits the relaxed pace of Pai well. Good to know: Classes run in the evenings from 3pm to 9pm, Tuesday through Sunday, making this a natural fit for afternoons after exploring Pai's daytime attractions. Booking in advance is strongly recommended, particularly during peak season, as places are limited. Check the website at paicookingclass.com for current schedules and reservation options before visiting.

Six of us did this course, the whole day! Soooo much learned and soooo much fun. There’s a choice of dishes to learn including stir-fry, curry, soups, salads and deserts. However, all of this you could learn in any number of cookery schools across the world… what makes it special (and not to be missed) is Thom. She not only explains all of the ingredients in the kitchen but you get a trip to the market to see what’s on offer. She’s part cook, part comedian and will ‘roast’ you as quickly as one of her spices! Our group consisted of experienced cooks and complete noobs and there was loads for everyone, besides it being a great friends/family experience to share. Next time we’re in Pai we’ll be back for sure!

An incredible experience we won’t forget! We booked a cooking class with the amazing (and funny) chef Thom. Before we start cooking, we went to the local market where she explained us the history of the ingredients and how to choose them. Then we came back, we cooked and had our meals for lunch and then we cooked again and had our dinner! It was really interesting, we’ve learned so much and still had so much fun, we didn’t see the time fly! And most of all, we managed to cook dishes which tasted like real Thai food (knowing my cooking skills, I still can’t believe it!). Thank you again chef, we had an amazing day!

If you ever thought about learning how to cook real Thai food this is the place to go. Chef Thom is so knowledgeable and funny and takes her time to explain both the ingredients and the procedures of cooking Thai food. Her own cookbook that you get with the course contains all the favourites with detailed instructions. We cooked so much delicious food and for the first time (despite many attempts at home) I managed to cook food that just tasted like your favourite local restaurant. Thank you Thom we will think of you every time we make one of your delicious recipes.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
