Lotus's Lamai
Lotus's Lamai is a well-stocked hypermarket and shopping mall in the Lamai area of Koh Samui, functioning as a genuine one-stop destination for both holidaymakers and residents. Beyond the main supermarket floor — which carries fresh produce, groceries, household goods, and affordable clothing — the complex houses a food court, a bank, mobile phone retailers, shoe shops including Bata, and familiar food outlets such as Dunkin' Donuts. Visitors regularly pick up quality t-shirts and everyday items at notably low prices, and the mall also offers currency exchange, which several shoppers rate as offering competitive rates compared to other outlets on the island. The air-conditioned environment provides a genuine retreat from Koh Samui's tropical heat, and the wide selection of shopping carts and spacious layout make it practical for a full grocery run or a leisurely browse. Staff are generally noted as helpful, and the store does not require bag check-in, adding a small but appreciated convenience. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, catering equally to families stocking up on supplies and tourists hunting for budget souvenirs or snacks. Good to know: Lotus's Lamai is open every day from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it easy to fit around a busy travel itinerary. Visiting in the morning tends to be quieter, which is ideal for grocery shopping, while evenings are livelier around the food court area. Free parking is typically available for those arriving by scooter or car.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
