Lotus's Lamai

4.4(2,664 reviews)

Functioning as a genuine one-stop destination in the Lamai area of Koh Samui, this large-format hypermarket sits within a shopping complex that extends well beyond the supermarket floor. The main store carries fresh produce, groceries, household goods, and affordable clothing — with visitors regularly finding quality t-shirts and everyday items at notably low prices. The surrounding mall adds further convenience, housing a food court, a bank, mobile phone retailers, a Bata shoe shop, and food outlets including Dunkin' Donuts. Currency exchange is also available on-site, with several visitors noting competitive rates compared to other outlets on the island. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, drawing an even mix of holidaymakers stocking up on supplies and residents doing their weekly shop. Air conditioning throughout the complex makes it a genuine retreat from Koh Samui's tropical heat, and the spacious layout with plentiful shopping carts keeps the experience practical and unhurried. Staff are consistently noted as helpful, and there is no bag check-in requirement upon entry. Good to know: Lotus's Lamai is open every day from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it straightforward to incorporate into most travel schedules. Morning visits tend to be quieter and are well suited to grocery shopping, while the food court area picks up in the evenings. Free parking is generally available for those arriving by scooter or car.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls

Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.

Arrive Early or Late

Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.

Be Cautious with Tailors

Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
