Red City Market
This open-air street market in Kanchanaburi operates on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings, drawing a largely local crowd looking for fresh produce, meat, fish, fruit, and everyday snacks. It is a neighbourhood market in the truest sense — unpretentious, affordable, and reflective of ordinary Thai daily life rather than a tourist-oriented shopping experience. Visitors can expect a relaxed outdoor atmosphere with vendor stalls selling fresh food alongside sweets, local snacks, and a modest selection of other goods. Covered dining areas on site make it easy to grab a casual meal or sample street food alongside locals. Tuesday tends to attract more vendors and a livelier atmosphere than other days, making it the most rewarding day to visit if the schedule allows. Good to know: The market typically runs from around 3:00 to 4:00 PM through the early evening, so an afternoon visit fits well alongside daytime sightseeing in Kanchanaburi. The selection of stalls and vendors can vary from visit to visit, so expectations are best kept flexible. Bring cash, as card payments are unlikely to be accepted. Parking is available nearby but space can be limited, so arriving early is advisable for those driving.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
