Central Chidlom
Central Chidlom is one of Bangkok's most established department stores, occupying a prominent position on Thanon Phloen Chit in the Lumphini area of Pathum Wan. What sets it apart from the city's larger, more frenetic malls is its open-plan layout and notably relaxed pace — shoppers can browse high-end fashion, cosmetics, bags, shoes, accessories, and electronics across multiple floors without the crowds or noise typical of Bangkok retail. Seasonal installations, including elaborate floral displays, add a considered aesthetic dimension that goes beyond standard department store presentation. The clientele tends to be mature and unhurried, and the atmosphere reflects this. Staff are well-trained and attentive without being intrusive, giving visitors space to browse at their own pace. A food court on the premises offers a solid range of dining options for a mid-visit break, and the store periodically hosts anniversary events and themed promotions worth checking ahead of time on the official website at central.co.th. Central Chidlom is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it straightforward to incorporate into most Bangkok itineraries. Its central location near major hotels and public transport adds convenience. Weekday mornings are the quietest time to visit, which suits those after a genuinely unhurried experience. Travellers who find Bangkok's larger shopping destinations overwhelming will likely appreciate the calmer, more spacious environment here.

Visitor Reviews
It’s been quite some time since my last visit, and I’m happy to say that Central Chidlom still holds its timeless charm and unique character. This has always been my favorite branch — a place for people who come with intention, whether to shop for something specific or to dine at restaurants they’ve chosen on purpose. It’s never been the kind of mall people wander into just to escape the heat, and that’s exactly what I love about it. Parking is convenient, the store selection is complete, and the dining options have expanded beautifully. There are now so many great restaurants — well-curated and clearly selected with taste — that it’s become one of the best spots in town to meet friends for a good meal. The mix of international and local brands is impressive too, with collections that rival what you’d find overseas. Even the food court feels refined and well thought out. Central Chidlom still carries that quiet sophistication — a kind of old-school elegance that never goes out of style. Walking through it always brings a sense of comfort and contentment.
That is probably the prettiest, nicest and most calm shopping mall I ever visited. Open space is what’s lovely and many brands have shop without actual shop. No one is bothering you and seems only rich locals come here. Feels like there is shop of every brand rich people use, wear, buy. Only selected top products are here presented. That’s another level of shopping. Quality of everything is top world level. We were impressed. Walked all floors cause we had to experience this beauty. It’s not cold inside. Seem like a same temperature everywhere also same peaceful music everywhere which create a nice pleasant environment. Next time we hear we are back in this place for sure. Also food store on ground floor is another level. World premium selection of everything. Loved it.
Such a wonderful mall. The food court was amazing. Had really nice collection of clothes, shoes, bags, electronics, etc. The best part was the flower display they have right now. So well thought out and constructed. A must see for everyone.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
