Ammatara Pura

4.7(308 reviews)

Nestled in the Maret district of Koh Samui, Ammatara Pura is a boutique resort hotel designed in traditional Thai style, with architecture that draws comparisons to a palace or temple. The property offers villas with private pools, a spa, and an on-site restaurant, all arranged to create a sense of seclusion and calm despite being within easy walking distance of town. Sea view villas in particular are noted for their privacy and sweeping coastal outlook, making them a popular choice for those seeking a genuine retreat. The atmosphere leans toward tranquil luxury, with lush, well-maintained grounds and staff consistently praised for their warmth and attentiveness. The restaurant serves fresh, flavorful food with a well-regarded breakfast, though the dining area is relatively intimate in size. Guests frequently highlight the cleanliness and spaciousness of the villas, and the beach access adds a natural centrepiece to the overall experience. The resort operates daily from 06:00 to 22:00, so guests should plan late-night arrivals accordingly and confirm check-in arrangements in advance. Given the private pool villa format and boutique scale, booking ahead is advisable, particularly during peak season between December and April. Prospective guests looking for the most secluded experience are advised to request a sea view villa at the time of reservation.

Visitor Reviews

We spent 7 nights at Ammatara Pura Pool Villa and had an amazing experience. The resort is absolutely stunning, built in traditional Thai style—it felt like staying in a palace or temple. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing the whole time. Our villa was incredibly spacious, with the largest bedroom we’ve ever stayed in. Everything was high quality, from the furnishings to the little details like slippers. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order each morning, based on what we selected the day before—delicious and a nice change from the usual buffet. One highlight was the free Thai dress-up and photo session. Two kind staff members (one also served us breakfast!) dressed us in traditional outfits and took a ton of lovely photos around the resort. It was such a unique and thoughtful touch. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a luxurious, quiet stay with authentic Thai charm.

A spectacular hotel Architecturally beautiful The villas are amazing. Book a Sea View villa for total privacy and amazing views It really is an oasis of calm in a busy city Easy walk to town and all the bars and restaurants The hotel foo right on the beach is excellent too. This is my second time visiting this hotel. This time for 12 days. Wish I could stay longer. The service from the staff here is beyond any I have experienced anywhere else without it being intrusive. Stephen the manager is a delight And Anastasia the food and beverage manager is an absolute star! Stay here Thank me later 😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts

Book Shoulder Season

May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.

Compare OTAs and Direct Rates

Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.

Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive

Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
