Khao Rang Viewpoint

4.5(7,010 reviews)

Sitting atop Khao Rang Hill in Phuket's Wichit district, this elevated public park and viewpoint offers sweeping panoramic views across Phuket Town and the island's coastline on both sides. It functions as much as a relaxed green space as a scenic lookout, drawing visitors who want a broad sense of the island's geography without the crowds typical of Phuket's busier tourist zones. A resident population of wild monkeys roams the grounds and adds an unexpected point of interest, though they remain wild animals and visitors should keep a respectful distance and avoid carrying food or loose items openly.

Entry is free, parking is plentiful, and the atmosphere is notably calm and unhurried. A coffee vendor on site makes it easy to linger and take in the views at a comfortable pace. Public toilets are available for a small fee. The grounds are noted by visitors as somewhat lacking in maintenance, so the appeal here lies in the setting and the views rather than polished facilities — worth factoring into expectations before arriving.

The viewpoint works well as a half-hour stop within a wider itinerary centred on Phuket Town and its surroundings. Early morning or late afternoon visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat and to make the most of the light for photography. Comfortable footwear and sun protection are advisable, particularly during warmer months.

Reviews from Google

Lovely viewpoint with views over both sides of the island. Lots of monkey around. They didnt show any signs of aggressiveness towards us, but I'd highly recommend not taking anything you're not willing to lose. Have had previous experiences with monkeys in Phuket and they aren't always that friendly.

- spectacular landscape of Phuket city view - free to access - charge for using public toilet - plenty of parking lot - easy to come and visit - calm and chill vibes - not crowded

If you pass by, go for it. The viewpoint offers a nice look over Phuket but, from my point of you not a must have seen. There monkeys are kind of cute but they are still wild animal; stay away from them. Overall, as said, go if you pass by (most organized tours do) but there is a lot of things you can spend your time on with more to take home as a memory.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
