จุดชมวิวหอพระยารัษฎานุประดิษฐ์ Phuket City View Point

4.6(150 reviews)

Perched on Khao Rang Hill in the Wichit area of Mueang Phuket District, this viewpoint delivers sweeping panoramic views across Phuket Town, the coastline, and the island's forested hills — including visible sightlines toward Patong. Named after a historical figure of regional significance, the site sits near Khaorang Temple, giving the stop a quiet cultural dimension alongside its scenic appeal. The combination of urban landscape, sea, and natural terrain visible from a single vantage point makes it a worthwhile detour for travellers wanting to grasp the island's geography beyond its beaches. The atmosphere is relaxed and accessible. A small cluster of cafes, ice cream vendors, and snack stalls operates at the site, making it a comfortable place to linger rather than a quick photo stop. Visitors can reach the viewpoint on foot from Phuket Old Town in roughly an hour, or more conveniently by vehicle, making it an easy addition to a day already spent exploring the town. Good to know: Late afternoon is widely regarded as the ideal time to visit. The light is more flattering for photography, temperatures are cooler than the midday heat, and the sunset views — with the city, sea, and hills bathed in warm light — are a particular draw. Midday visits are possible but can be uncomfortably hot with limited shade available. No formal opening hours are listed, so daylight visits are advisable.

Visitor Reviews

Visiting Khaorang Temple in Phuket is a serene yet thrilling experience that beautifully blends nature, culture, and a hint of wild adventure. Nestled on Khao Rang Hill, this temple isn't just a place for prayer and meditation — it’s also known for its panoramic views and the unexpected company of monkeys freely roaming the area. As you make your way up the hill, the cool breeze and lush greenery greet you. Once you arrive at the temple grounds, you're welcomed by the peaceful atmosphere, golden Buddha statues, and traditional Thai architecture. The temple is not as tourist-heavy as others, making it perfect for quiet reflection. But one of the most unique parts of the visit? The monkeys. These curious, cheeky creatures are a part of the Khao Rang experience. They often wander around the viewpoint and temple grounds, sometimes playfully interacting with visitors. Some may approach you, especially if they sense food, so it's best to avoid feeding them and keep your belongings secure — they are smart and fast! Despite their mischievous nature, the presence of the monkeys adds a lively, natural charm to the peaceful surroundings. It’s a gentle reminder that in Thailand, even sacred spaces are closely tied to nature. Whether you're watching the sunset from the Khao Rang Viewpoint, praying at the temple, or observing the playful monkeys, this place offers a unique, memorable blend of spiritual calm and wild beauty.

It takes only an hour to walk from old phuket town, it's definitely easier to access than the monkey mountain! The view point is great, you can see Patong from here:) and its surrounded by some restaurants and store as well! Totally well organised! If you are looking for something special for your Phuket trip apart from beaches, hiking is one of your choices:)

Beautiful spot to have an overlooking view of the entire Phuket. I highly recommend coming here during the afternoon because it's too hot during midday.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
