View Point Hong Island

Climb up and the whole thing clicks. From sea level you see limestone walls and green water. From the viewpoint you see the shape of it, the lagoons cut into the rock, the karsts scattered off into the Andaman, colours that look edited but aren't. It's the reason people who've done the Hong Island boat trip and skipped the climb always sound faintly disappointed about it.

This is a stop on a day tour rather than somewhere you turn up to independently, and the boats set the rhythm. Get there early in the day if you can. The light is kinder before midday, the platform is less busy, and you're not queuing behind twenty people waiting for the same photo. It isn't a long climb, but the terrain is uneven and largely exposed, so bring water and something on your head.
