Dive Shack Bangtao Beach

5.0(199 reviews)

This family-owned dive operation on Bangtao Beach has built a strong reputation for personalised service and attentive instruction, catering to both first-time divers and those returning to the water after a break. Guided excursions run to sites including Racha Yai and Koh Waew North, where divers can explore coral reefs and marine life in the Andaman Sea. The small-group format means participants receive genuine one-on-one attention from instructors, and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere on the boat is a consistent highlight for visitors. The operation runs half-day and full-day dive trips, typically departing in the morning and returning by early afternoon. Refresher courses are available for divers who haven't been in the water for some time, with instructors praised for their patience and clear communication. Named instructors including Chris, Poy, and PJ feature regularly in visitor accounts, reflecting the personal and consistent nature of the experience on offer. Good to know: The dry season running from November to April brings calmer seas and better underwater visibility, making it the most reliable time to dive from Phuket. Trips involve boat travel to offshore sites, so arriving prepared with reef-safe sunscreen and any required documentation for certification purposes is advisable. As a small, family-run business with a loyal repeat clientele, booking ahead is recommended during peak season to confirm availability.

Visitor Reviews

I had the pleasure of going diving with ‘Dive Shack’ in Bang Tao for the 2nd time this year. The company is family owned, and offers a great personal service from booking the dives in one of their two offices, to going diving at the Koh Waco island just a short long tail boat ride from either the beach or pier, both located close together in Bang Tao. All the staff are very friendly and professional. My dive master was called ‘Top’, and he was 1st class. He was extremely knowledgeable about the dive area, but always ensured his first priority was my safety, whether that was whilst I was setting up my equipment or under the water. I can’t recommend the ‘Dive Shack’ strongly enough, and will definitely be enjoying their superb and professional service when I return in early 2026. I have uploaded a couple of photos from my dive, but I am not the best with technology, and so the quality & content doesn’t do justice to the marine life I witnessed.

We had an amazing diving experience with Dive Shack at Koh Waew North. We left at 8:30 in the morning and returned around 13:00 perfect timing for a relaxed half day trip. There were four of us, and we did two dives with P’ Klay and P’ Top, who were both great. The service and explanations were excellent very professional, clear and helpful throughout the dives. They were great at spotting and identifying marine life, including lobsters, triggerfish, and pufferfish which made the experience even more special. Highly recommend Dive Shack for a well organized, friendly, and memorable diving trip!

We had 2 fantastic dives with Chris and Poy. We hadn’t dived in a few years so we completed the refresher first which put us at ease. Chris and Poy were good fun, knowledgeable and made us feel very relaxed. We saw some amazing marine life including an octopus. Chris filmed footage for us and sent it over at the end. Communication throughout was great and we highly recommend. Thank you very much. Blain and Rory.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
