Thai Kitchen Cookery Centre

5.0(144 reviews)

Located on Loikhro Road in the Chang Khlan area of Chiang Mai, this cookery centre offers structured Thai cooking classes designed to suit a range of schedules and experience levels. Courses span from a 2-hour express option through to full-day programmes covering up to seven dishes, making it a practical choice whether time is limited or a deeper culinary experience is the goal. Classes typically begin with a visit to a local market, where participants learn to identify, source, and store authentic Thai ingredients before moving into hands-on kitchen instruction. The atmosphere is warm and attentive, with instructors described by visitors as approachable, informative, and genuinely engaged with each participant. Small group settings mean learners receive close guidance throughout, and the format appeals equally to those who cook regularly and those who rarely set foot in a kitchen. The focus throughout is on authentic techniques, flavour principles, and the cultural context behind traditional Thai dishes. A practical note: the centre opens daily from 9:00am, closing at 5:00pm on Fridays and 4:30pm on all other days. Advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly during Chiang Mai's busier tourist periods, to secure a preferred course time. Comfortable, casual clothing and closed-toe shoes are advisable given the kitchen environment. The centre's central location makes it straightforward to reach from most parts of the city, and all course formats are designed to fit within a single day's itinerary.

Visitor Reviews

Great place near the centre of Chiang Mai. We were looking for a quicker class that didn’t take up 4-5 hours of the day and the 2hour express course they offered was absolutely perfect. We were able to cook 4 courses each in that time and they were brilliantly prepared and efficient. The Khao soi was also the best we had in Thailand (and we ate a lot of Khao Soi!). There was still so much food we couldn’t eat it all and had to take it home with us. The fire wok was also lots of fun. After the class we were given the recipes so we can try and replicate them at home and show off some new skills to our friends. Great price too, I’d recommend it to anyone.

Amazing place! I got the whole day cooking course (7 dishes) and it was the best experience. The team are all lovely and super helpful and there was someone giving me their kind attention at all times. First we had a trip to the market where the guide pointed out all the ingredients we’d be using and explained things about Thai cooking. This was just educational as all the ingredients are provided, but you can buy things if you want to. Then we were transported back to the school to begin cooking and it was not only fun, but also next level delicious. Thank you so much for the best day 🙏

Taking a Thai cooking class at Thai Kitchen Cookery Center was one of the highlights of our visit to Chiang Mai! And we don't even like to cook, haha! The staff/chefs made it so much fun!!! And the food we cooked, with their help, was really amazing. If you choose the morning class, which we recommend, it will include a trip to the local street market, which was fascinating and we learned a lot about local food and ingredients. This is a must-do activity for anyone visiting Chiang Mai!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
