Lanta Thai Cookery School

5.0(474 reviews)

Lanta Thai Cookery School offers immersive, hands-on cooking classes in the heart of Sala Dan on Ko Lanta, where enthusiastic local instructors guide participants through the preparation of authentic Thai dishes using quality fresh ingredients. The school stands out for the genuine passion its teachers bring to each session — instructors like Prim are noted by visitors for their energy and depth of knowledge — creating an atmosphere that is both educational and genuinely enjoyable. Classes typically involve preparing multiple dishes and, on certain days, include a short walk to a nearby local market where participants can source ingredients and learn to identify traditional Thai vegetables and produce firsthand. The school accommodates a range of dietary needs, offering vegan and vegetarian alternatives across dishes, making it a practical choice for groups with mixed requirements. The learning environment is informal and interactive, with instructors encouraging questions throughout, and sessions conclude with participants eating the food they have cooked. Good to know: Ko Lanta is most comfortably visited during the dry season from November to April, when travel conditions on the island are at their best. Booking in advance is recommended, and it is worth confirming any dietary requirements at the time of reservation. Thursday classes benefit from proximity to a local market just five minutes away, which adds an extra dimension to the experience. Wear comfortable, casual clothing appropriate for kitchen work and allow for a half-day commitment.

Reviews from Google

We really enjoyed the cooking class. We made 4 different dishes and it was a unique experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and thoughtful. They offer vegan/vegetarian options for every dish and even ask for gluten or any other allergies.

We just had our Thai cooking class here, and it has been an amazing experience. The people that work here are very passionate about what they do. Especially Prim our cooking instructor was so energetic and had a great sense of humour. I’d definitely recommend to take your cooking class here! And make sure to bring enough appetite hehe.

The cooking class itself is good: the ingredients are good quality and the lady’s knowledge is good also. Unfortunately, the experience was let down at the very end by the way logistics were handled. We asked for just 10 minutes so our tuk-tuk could wait, but there was zero flexibility and it created an unnecessary stressful moment that spoiled the vibe. A bit more understanding and customer care would make this a 5-star experience.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
