Daddy's Thai Cooking School

5.0(56 reviews)

Located in the Hai Ya area of Chiang Mai, Daddy's Thai Cooking School offers an immersive, full-day culinary experience that takes participants from the fresh market all the way to the dining table. The experience begins with a guided market tour where guests help select the ingredients they will later cook with — a detail that gives the class a grounded, authentic feel compared to more conventional cooking courses. Classes are led by individual instructors who have drawn consistent praise from visitors for their warmth, humour, and teaching ability. Instructors mentioned in reviews include Kimmy, New, and Cha-Em, each described as engaging and attentive from the very first moment. The school also arranges hotel pickup, making logistics straightforward for travellers staying across the city. The hands-on format ensures participants leave with both a satisfying meal and practical skills they can recreate at home. Good to know: the school is open every day of the week from 8:00am to 10:00pm, offering flexibility for travellers with varied itineraries. As the school's online presence is currently based through Facebook, prospective visitors are advised to contact them directly via their Facebook page to confirm class schedules, group sizes, and booking arrangements before arrival.

This experience was unlike any other I’ve ever done. I think it was so insightful and interactive. They literally picked us up from our hotel, took us to the market to pick out the ingredients for our class and then took us to the class, which is so cool that they’re able to do all that! I felt like I was on a field trip lol They taught us so much about Thailand’s local veggies and how they differ from ones we might find where we’re from. The instructor was the BEST part of the program. She was beyond funny and charming, and really made the mood light , which made all of us strangers from different countries a little closer during the class if I ever come back to Thailand with my family I am for sure booking for all of us to take this class. Oh I almost forgot the food was AMAZING literally 10 out of 10 ! Everything about this class is super authentic. If you have the time I would book for sure it’s completely worth it.

The experience is really awesome because of New, the teacher. She has been friendly and close since the first minute. She confirmed the time for pick up around 30 mins earlier, and she was on time explaining how many stops we are gonna do and what is gonna happen. The firts stop, at the market, we had all the explanation about their products, names and different options for hot food. Once we were at the school, everything was super clean and tidied with tea and water for a welcoming. You can choose between some options for: curry, soup and stir fried. The lesson was perfect and fun and after, we could enjoy all the food we prepared. New has been excellent teacher. One of the best experiences we did in Chiang Mai. Thank you!

We had an amazing time! The market tour was eye-opening, but the cooking was the true highlight. 🤩 Kimmy was a brilliant host, witty, engaging, and great at keeping the energy high. She made the complex steps feel easy, guiding us through the measures and timing for each dish with expert care. The results spoke for themselves. The flavors and smells were just as good as (if not better than) the some restaurants we’ve visited. While the mango sticky rice at the end got a mixed reception from our group, the first three dishes were a total success. This activity is incredible value for money and a must-do for any food lover. 10/10, and a huge thank you to Kimmy for being such a star! 👍🏾

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
