Chiang Mai Trekking by Piroon & Baan Nantaya Guesthouse
This well-established trekking operation on Ratchapakhinai Road combines guided wilderness treks with attached guesthouse accommodation at Baan Nantaya, making it a practical and self-contained base for exploring the forests and hill tribe villages of northern Thailand. The company's signature offering is a three-day, two-night trek that takes small groups through varied terrain, with daily hikes ranging from four to six hours, overnight stays in Karen and Lahu hill tribe villages, and river floating on the final day. Named guides including Yut, Si, Boca, and Loki appear consistently across visitor accounts and are credited with making physically demanding itineraries both manageable and genuinely memorable. Private tour bookings are available for those who prefer a more personal experience away from group departures. The attached Baan Nantaya Guesthouse removes the need to arrange separate accommodation around trek dates, which is particularly useful for those extending their time in the region. The office is open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, allowing for in-person enquiries and flexible booking throughout the week. Good to know: Booking ahead through chiangmai-trekking.com is strongly recommended, especially between November and February when Chiang Mai sees its highest visitor numbers. Sturdy, waterproof footwear is essential as trails can be muddy and uneven. Travellers should pack light for multi-day treks but include a change of clothes and insect repellent. These tours are best suited to those with a reasonable level of fitness and an interest in immersive cultural experiences rather than sightseeing-style day trips.

Visitor Reviews
An unforgettable authentic experience trekking in the mountains north of Chang Mai and staying 2 nights in the villages of the Karen and Lahu hill tribes. Our guide, Boca, was simply outstanding and looked after us so well, way beyond just doing his job. Humorous, knowledgeable, supportive, anttentive and so much more. Would highly recommend. My wife and I took a 3 day 2 night private tour with Boca as our guide. While we are a relatively fit early retired couple and do regular multi day solo walking tours in Spain and The Canary Islands we went private because my wife severely sprained her ankle 4 days beforehand. Therefore Boca and the company had to provide options just in case the heavily strapped ankle couldn’t cope. With Boca’s care and attention and flexibility we managed everything including slightly shortening the first day hike to 4km down from 6km and arranging for one back pack to be transported via motorbike. Second morning we managed 8km through some challenging jungle and jumped on a raft after lunch instead of hiking the final 3km. Third day was rafting and elephant visits. The overnights were unreal in the houses of the villagers with huge amounts of tasty Thai food. Enough for twice as many people. Altogether a surreal experience in the jungle enhanced immeasurably by the services of our wonderful guide Boca. THANK YOU Boca.
The trekking experience was truly the highlight of our trip. Even though we were tired from the hike, we have absolutely no regrets doing it. It was worth every step. Our guide Mr Yut was fantastic. He was super friendly, cheerful, and constantly in great spirits. He took very good care of us throughout the trek, always checking in and keeping the energy up. He was even singing while hiking! One of the most thoughtful touches was when he made bamboo hiking sticks for us along the way, which turned out to be incredibly useful on the trail. We were also lucky to have wonderful travel companions. There were so many enjoyable conversations along the way, which made the whole experience even more memorable. The overnight stay at the village was simple but very comfortable. The home-cooked food was delicious and felt authentic and heartfelt. We really appreciated that the route felt off the beaten path — not overly touristy, but genuinely local and immersive. And the bamboo rafting at the end was so much fun. A perfect, relaxing way to wrap up the adventure. We would highly recommend this trekking experience to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. It was meaningful, memorable, and easily the best part of our trip.
We did the 3 day hiking tour with Si, which was an amazing experience all round. We did 4 hours of hiking on the first day, 6 hours on the second day and on the last day we floated down the river on a bamboo raft and then got to meet the elephants, it’s so lovely! The hiking was downhill/uphill most of the time with smaller flat bits in between and stunning views of the forest and mountain ranges in the distance. Food was delicious and always freshly cooked with lots of fruit. The villages we’re staying in were small communities of friendly people and the beds were comfortable. It does get cold overnight but we’re always warm under multiple layers of blankets that were provided. Si was an amazing guide who told us lots of things about the animals and plants on hikes, let us try different forest fruit and answered all our questions along the way. It kept the hikes very entertaining and fun. Thank you so much for everything Si, we had the best time! If you’re looking for the perfect hiking tour in chiang mai to learn more about the local culture and spend time hiking through completely untouched forests, this is it! ✨10/10 would recommend! ❤️ lots of love, Lea & Tom

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
