Relax Express@Chiangmai Gate

4.9(1,445 reviews)

Situated steps from the historic Chiang Mai Gate at the edge of the Old City, this massage and spa centre offers traditional Thai treatments at notably accessible prices. A one-hour Thai massage or foot massage starts at 350 THB, while the popular Sabai combo — one hour of Thai massage followed by one hour of foot massage — comes in at 650 THB, making it a practical stop for budget-conscious travellers without sacrificing quality. Guests are welcomed with a foot wash in dedicated basins and a cool drink while they wait, setting a calm and attentive tone from the outset. The space is clean, well-organised, and designed for genuine relaxation. Therapists are noted for their ability to work with varying pressure preferences, including deeper tissue work, and sessions often incorporate stretching and assisted bending techniques. Staff are consistently described as professional and welcoming. The location near Chiang Mai Gate places it within easy reach of the Old City's temples, markets, and walking streets, making it a convenient mid-day or late-afternoon stop during a day of sightseeing. As with many well-regarded spas in central Chiang Mai, arriving with a reservation or booking ahead is advisable, particularly during the peak season between November and February. One reviewer noted a waiting experience following check-in, so confirming appointment times directly with the venue beforehand helps ensure a smooth visit.

Visitor Reviews

I had a wonderful experience at Relax Express Massage in Chiang Mai. From the moment I walked in, the staff were friendly, professional, and welcoming. The place was clean, calm, and well-organized, which immediately made me feel relaxed. The massage itself was excellent — strong where needed, gentle where appropriate, and very attentive to my comfort level. The therapist clearly knew what they were doing and focused on releasing tension in my shoulders and back. I walked out feeling refreshed, relaxed, and much lighter. Great value for the quality of service. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting Chiang Mai and looking for a reliable, professional massage. I’ll definitely come back next time.

1. The prices are very reasonable. 350 THB for a 1-hour Thai massage or foot massage. If you choose the Sabai combo (1 hour Thai massage + 1 hour foot massage), it’s only 650 THB. 2. The space is new, beautiful, and elegant. There is a form to fill in personal information, preferred massage intensity, medical history, etc., to ensure the best possible service. 3. The massage therapists are highly skilled. The pressure is exactly as requested. They do not chat with each other during working hours, which creates a comfortable and relaxing experience for customers. ⛔️ The only disadvantage is that the room temperature is slightly low.

Wonderful experience! Excellent service — they wash your feet in special basins and offer a cool drink while you wait. The staff are polite and professional, and the massage therapists really care about your comfort. After the session, they serve tea with cookies — such a lovely touch! The interior is modern and clean, with air conditioning, air purifiers, relaxing music, and a pleasant aroma. Highly recommend this place if you’re in Chiang Mai!

Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas

Learn Wat Pho First

Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.

Communicate Pressure Preferences

Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.

Book Longer Sessions

A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
