About Samui Airport
You'll probably enjoy the arrival here more than you expect. No fluorescent corridors, no endless walk to the gate. The terminal is open-air, thatched, and set in tropical gardens, and a tram carries you between the plane and the gates with the runway in plain view. It's small and it's privately run, which shows in how quickly check-in and security tend to move.
Two things to brace for. The runway is short, so landings and takeoffs are steep and fast, which is fine but startling if nobody warns you. And the signage is thin, so first-timers do a bit of guessing about where to go. Ask someone. Staff are used to it. There are a few shops and snack spots, and unusually for an airport, arriving early isn't a punishment. The place is quite pleasant to potter around.

Despite being quite small, it’s incredibly well designed and feels very cozy and relaxed. The open-air layout, tropical scenery, and thoughtful architecture make the whole experience feel more like a resort than an airport. Everything is very walkable, so getting around is effortless and stress-free. The shops are cute and unique, and it’s actually a really nice place to arrive early and spend some time walking around, browsing, and enjoying the atmosphere. Instead of rushing through, you can genuinely enjoy being there. Overall, an amazing airport that perfectly reflects the charm of Koh Samui. A great first and last impression of the island
My Review of Koh Samui Airport (04/01/2026) Samui International Airport is a wonderful and small yet beautiful airport. I really loved the infrastructure — it feels more like a tropical resort than an airport. The open design, greenery, and relaxed atmosphere make the whole experience very pleasant. The check-in process was quick, and the staff were very kind and welcoming. Overall, it’s one of the most unique and charming airports I’ve visited. Traveling through this airport feels calm and enjoyable rather than stressful.
Interesting airport that has an amusement park feel whereby the moment you disembark the plane, those trams will come pick you. But it's nice to have unblock view of the runway and planes taking off in clear sight. Airport signages however were rather lacking and for the first time coming, had a lot of guessing where to go to
