About Ao Ton Sai Pier
Everyone who comes to Phi Phi Don walks through this pier, twice, because there's no airport and no other way onto the island. Ferries and speedboats run to Krabi, Phuket, Koh Lanta and points around the Andaman, and the whole waterfront is geared to that, with tour desks, luggage handlers, vendors, boats loading and unloading all day. It's a working pier, not a sight, though the limestone karsts and the water behind it do a lot of heavy lifting.
The pinch point is late morning to early afternoon, when several services land at once and the boarding process gets messy. My advice is to turn up with time in hand rather than cutting it fine, and to keep your bag where you can see it. In high season, roughly November through April, book your ferry ahead. Boats do fill.
