Sam Yot MRT Station

If you're doing the old town on foot, this is the stop to aim for. It puts you within walking distance of Dinso Road, Wang Burapha, the edge of Chinatown, Wat Ratchabophit, the wholesale markets and the arcades full of textiles, gold, cameras and second-hand game shops. You could fill half a day just wandering out from the exits in different directions, which is more than you can say for most MRT stations.

The station itself is clean and easy to read, so you won't be standing there squinting at signage. Where it gets scruffier is the bus stop area outside. One reviewer described seeing someone sniffing glue there at 7:30 in the morning and wished there were staff keeping an eye on things. It's not a reason to avoid the station, but if you're arriving early or alone, head straight for the platforms rather than loitering upstairs.
