The Old Siam Plaza
Tucked along Tri Phet Road in Bangkok's historic Phra Nakhon district, this multi-storey shopping plaza offers a quieter, more traditional alternative to the city's modern malls. It sits comfortably close to other old-town landmarks, making it a natural stop for anyone exploring the historic centre of Bangkok. The plaza is particularly well regarded for its silk and traditional Thai clothing, with upper floors home to numerous shops selling formal wear, event attire, and intricately made garments — especially for women. Jewellery stores are also well represented throughout the complex. The ground level and surrounding area offer street food and snacks, and a food mart adds further convenience. The air conditioning throughout the building provides welcome relief from Bangkok's heat, and the atmosphere feels organised and unhurried compared to busier outdoor markets. Visitors frequently describe it as a window into classic Bangkok commercial life. Good to know: The plaza is located a short walk from the Pak Khlong Talat flower market, making it easy to combine both into a single outing. Smaller vendors may prefer cash, so it is worth carrying some Thai baht. The strong air conditioning makes the plaza a practical midday retreat during hot weather. Comfortable footwear is advisable if planning to browse multiple floors.

Visitor Reviews
The Old Siam Plaza is a charming and nostalgic stop in Bangkok’s historic old town — a welcome contrast to the big modern malls elsewhere in the city. It feels like a window into classic Bangkok, with traditional architecture, a relaxed vibe, and a mix of interesting shops and food stalls. I especially enjoyed wandering through the ground floor food area with Thai snacks and sweets, and checking out the variety of silks, fabrics, and local boutiques upstairs. It’s a great place to pick up unique Thai textiles or just take a break from the heat in the air-conditioned interior.
Old Siam Mall is such a nice and tidy place to explore! The mall is clean, organized, and full of shops selling beautiful silk dresses and traditional Thai clothes, some even have good promotions. You can also find lots of local snacks here, all looking clean and hygienic, with fair prices. The top floor has a food court with a few halal options too, which is great for Muslim visitors. It’s a good spot to experience local Thai culture, shop for quality fabrics, and grab some snacks in a relaxed setting.
This place is silk heaven with many shops on the upper floors catering excellent events wear, particularly for women. The clothes are simply exquisite. There’s also a food mart and some jewellery stores. It’s not as busy as the larger malls but I like it for that reason.
Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
