cholasbkk
Cholas is an Indian restaurant located in the Makkasan area of Bangkok's Ratchathewi district, drawing a loyal following among both expatriates and travellers craving genuine Indian flavours far from home. The kitchen caters to a wide range of preferences, serving both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes prepared to order on the ground floor, while the first floor offers a buffet spread for those who prefer variety in a single sitting. The menu spans North and South Indian cooking, making it a practical stop for anyone seeking regional depth rather than a generic curry house experience. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, with staff frequently praised for their friendliness and attentiveness. Dishes are described by visitors as rich, well-prepared, and genuinely reminiscent of home cooking — a quality that explains its strong reputation within Bangkok's Indian dining scene. The restaurant also operates as part of Cholas Hotel, so the overall setting feels more established than a standalone eatery. Cholas is open every day of the week from 10:00 AM to 11:30 PM, giving travellers flexibility across lunch, dinner, and late-evening meals. Visitors should be aware that prices run higher than typical Bangkok dining, so it is worth budgeting accordingly. Checking the website at cholasthailand.com ahead of a visit is advisable for current menu details or to enquire about reservations, particularly during busy evening hours.

What really makes the experience special is the hospitality—Sarita is extremely friendly and welcoming, and she makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Her warm attitude and great service truly enhance the dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food and excellent service.
Food was really good but portions, it’s a good night time restaurant and if you love Indian food come here. Understand it’s very expensive though
This is our first time at Cholas Hotel, the service is really great and the food is amazing.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
