cholasbkk
Cholas is an Indian restaurant attached to Cholas Hotel in the Makkasan area of Ratchathewi, serving both North and South Indian cuisine to a loyal crowd of expatriates and travellers. The kitchen handles vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes across a broad menu, offering genuine regional depth rather than a simplified curry house approach. Visitors consistently describe the food as rich, well-prepared, and closely reminiscent of home cooking — a quality that has built its strong reputation within Bangkok's Indian dining scene. The ground floor operates on a made-to-order basis, while the first floor runs a buffet spread for those who prefer variety in a single sitting. The setting is warm and comfortable, and staff are frequently noted for their friendliness and attentiveness. As part of a hotel property, the overall experience feels more established and consistent than a standalone eatery, making it a reliable choice for a sit-down meal at any point in the day. Cholas is open every day of the week from 10:00 AM to 11:30 PM, which gives travellers flexibility across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-evening meals. Prices run noticeably higher than typical Bangkok dining, so it is worth budgeting accordingly before visiting. For current menu details or to check availability during busy evening hours, the website at cholasthailand.com is a practical first stop.

Visitor Reviews
Cholas Restaurant is a wonderful place to enjoy authentic, flavorful food in a warm and comfortable setting. The dishes are well-prepared, rich in taste, and clearly made with care. What really makes the experience special is the hospitality—Sarita is extremely friendly and welcoming, and she makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Her warm attitude and great service truly enhance the dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food and excellent service.
Food was really good but portions, it’s a good night time restaurant and if you love Indian food come here. Understand it’s very expensive though
This is our first time at Cholas Hotel, the service is really great and the food is amazing.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
