Tamarind Restaurant, Phuket
Tamarind Restaurant has established itself as a standout evening dining destination in Phuket's quieter Wichit district, drawing guests with its Thai fusion cuisine and a setting that includes beach views. The restaurant sits away from the main tourist strips on Sakdidesh Road, offering a more intimate atmosphere that has made it a popular choice for anniversary dinners and celebratory occasions. The menu leans toward refined Thai fusion, with starters, mains, and desserts all drawing consistent praise from visitors. Reviewers frequently note the balance of flavours and the quality of presentation, describing the food as gourmet in character. The ambience complements the cooking — the setting is considered atmospheric and well-suited to a special evening out, with the outdoor or beach-facing aspect adding considerably to the overall experience. Tamarind opens daily from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, operating the same hours every day of the week. Arriving before 6:00 PM will find the restaurant closed, so evening planning is essential. Given the venue's popularity for milestone occasions and its relatively intimate size, making a reservation in advance is strongly advisable, particularly during Phuket's peak tourism season between November and April. Travellers can check current menus and contact details through the restaurant's website before visiting.

Visitor Reviews
Review for Tamarind Restaurant Tamarind delivered an incredible experience from the moment we arrived. The ambience was absolutely amazing and set the perfect vibe for celebrating our 19 year anniversary. The atmosphere felt both intimate and elevated, making it the ideal spot for a special occasion. The staff went above and beyond even before we sat down. Because the restaurant is located on a different floor from the entrance, they personally escorted us to our table. It was a thoughtful gesture that made a big impression. Vin, our host for the evening, was phenomenal. Despite us arriving about 15 minutes late for our reservation, he remained warm, welcoming, and courteous. He offered thoughtful recommendations and really helped set the tone for our evening. I started with the Rock Lobster Papaya Salad and it was outstanding. It was bright, well seasoned, and carried just the right amount of heat. My wife ordered the Rock Lobster Ravioli and the Green Curry. The curry was beautifully velvety and the lobster was succulent, making for a pair of excellent dishes. For my main, I had the crab with yellow curry and it was exceptional. The spices in the yellow curry were aromatic and layered, with a warmth that built gently with every bite. The crab itself tasted incredibly fresh. It was sweet, tender, and perfectly complemented by the rich and fragrant curry.
My wife and I chose Tamarind in Phuket for our anniversary dinner while travelling in Thailand, and it proved to be an outstanding decision. It was one of the most memorable anniversary dinners we have shared, and an experience we will genuinely treasure. The meal itself was exceptional. I enjoyed the lobster ravioli followed by stir-fried prawns in Tamarind sauce, both of which were beautifully prepared and full of flavour. The quality of the ingredients and attention to detail were evident throughout the meal. The drinks menu was also impressive, offering a strong and well-curated selection to complement the food. Combined with the wonderful ambience of the restaurant, the overall dining experience felt relaxed, refined, and special—perfect for an anniversary celebration. What truly elevated the evening, however, was the service. The staff were exceptional: warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. A special thank you to Kae, Bia, and Nan, whose friendliness and helpfulness made the night even more enjoyable. 😁 Tamarind delivered an outstanding dining experience from start to finish, and I wouldn’t t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a truly special meal in Phuket.
I absolutely loved it here. My experience was honestly the best I've had yet. Food was amazing - gourmet like - balanced and rich flavours, great dining experience and with a picture perfect beach view. We even got a live performance of a saxaphone being played which was beautiful. Vin was our host, he was so so lovely - I couldnt have asked for better service. I ordered a green papaya salad for the appetiser, the pad thai noodles for the main, and the fried banana for the dessert - but the photos dont do them justice. If I could recommend one restaurant to go to in Thailand, it would be Restaurant Tamarind for sure. I will be definitely coming back here.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
