Phuket Aquarium
Located on the southern tip of Phuket near Cape Panwa, Phuket Aquarium is run by the Phuket Marine Biological Center and offers a genuine focus on local marine life and ocean conservation rather than spectacle alone. The facility features displays of native fish species, coral reef ecosystems, an underwater walk-through tunnel, and a touch pool where younger visitors can interact with sea life. A marine breeding and conservation center on-site adds an educational dimension that sets it apart from purely commercial attractions. Visitors can expect a modest, unhurried environment that suits families and those with a genuine interest in Thailand's marine ecosystems. Exhibits include English-language commentary alongside Thai, making the conservation messaging accessible to international travellers. Occasional mermaid shows add a lighter entertainment element. Plan for roughly half an hour to an hour to move through the space comfortably. Some visitors note the facility shows its age in places, so those accustomed to large modern aquariums may find the scale and presentation more understated than expected. The aquarium is open every day of the week from 08:30 to 16:30, making morning visits a practical choice before heat and afternoon crowds build up. It sits a short drive from Phuket Town, so it pairs well with other southern Phuket sights. Checking the official website at phuketaquarium.org before visiting is recommended for current ticket prices and any scheduled shows or events.

Visitor Reviews
A great place to learn about local marine life! Lots of native fish species and different zones to explore. The fish tunnel was super cool, and there’s even a marine breeding and conservation center out back, which was a nice surprise. Really enjoyed my visit fun, educational, and relaxing. Some display areas could use a bit more life (a few tanks felt a bit empty), but overall it’s a lovely spot. Definitely recommend checking it out if you’re in the area!
Very nice aquarium with a lot of marine life. Quite a few different species. Pleasant environment to spend half an hour to an hour.
Excellent education about sea and it's inhabitants and how many with his callous selfishness is destroying the seabed and it's habitats by pollution of different time. It has English commentary and Thai explanations for different creatures of sea. Children seemed quite happy and so we're grown ups. Ticket 300 Baht for tourists and 200 for locals. There is a souvenir shop and cafeteria. Just on the sea. Really appreciated it.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
