Papazula

4.5(1,353 reviews)$$$$

Tucked along Phuket Road in the heart of Phuket Old Town, Papazula operates as a bar, restaurant, and live music venue, drawing a steady mix of locals and travellers with its relaxed atmosphere and personal hospitality. The owner's hands-on presence is frequently noted by visitors, contributing to a welcoming feel that keeps guests coming back throughout their stay. The menu spans Thai and international dishes at mid-range prices, with lunches typically coming in around 300 THB per person. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available, and the outdoor area is well-ventilated — a practical consideration in Phuket's humidity. The atmosphere leans unhurried and sociable, better suited to lingering over food and drinks than a quick meal. Live music plays in the evenings, adding a distinct energy to the venue, though the curated playlist during daytime hours earns its own praise from visitors. Note that some Thai dishes are served spicy by default, so it is worth stating your heat preference when ordering. Good to know: Papazula opens daily from noon until midnight, giving it flexibility for both lunch visits and late evenings. Walk-ins are generally accommodated, but checking ahead via papazula.net before busy weekend evenings is a sensible precaution. Those wanting the full experience — food, drinks, and live music together — should plan for an evening visit.

Visitor Reviews

We were staying in Phuket Old Town and found papazula, which quickly became our go-to spot. One of the few places around with both indoor and outdoor seating — the outdoor area is very well ventilated, comfortable, and perfect for a relaxed drink. The staff are extremely attentive, friendly, and fun, which really adds to the experience. We haven’t tried the food yet, but we came back twice just for the great cold drinks. The vibe is very chill, the place is spotless, and it feels welcoming and easygoing. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Phuket Town. 🍹✨

Great food, warm people & chill vibe I stopped by Papazula today - what a hidden gem in Old Phuket Town! We ordered lunch, spent around 300 THB per person, and everything was super fresh. The atmosphere is relaxed, music soft, and the staff are genuinely kind. We didn’t wait long for a table, the place feels clean, modern, and welcoming. Perfect for travelers who want something authentic but stylish. Will definitely come back - highly recommend!

Very friendly and cheerful staff, including the owner. Nice menu for food and drinks. There was live music playing during our visit, which was really wonderful. We went without a reservation and luckily there was space available.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
