Chomchan Thai Restaurant
Chomchan has earned Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition for seven consecutive years, a distinction awarded to restaurants delivering exceptional cooking at a reasonable price. Located on Yaowarad Road in Phuket Town, it operates firmly outside the tourist-trap bracket, drawing a loyal mix of locals and travelling food enthusiasts who come specifically for its traditional southern Thai cooking. The atmosphere is deliberately unpretentious — visitors frequently describe it as feeling like a meal in someone's home, warm and informal rather than polished. The menu centres on regional southern Thai dishes, and the kitchen's strength lies in depth of flavour over decorative presentation. Standout dishes include yellow crab curry and ink stir-fried squid, and traditional Thai drinks complement the food well. The experience rewards those who order widely across the menu, as each dish carries its own distinct character rather than blending into repetition. Good to know: Chomchan is open every day from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it suitable for both a relaxed lunch and an early or late dinner. The restaurant has on-site parking, which is a genuine convenience in central Phuket Town. Given its reputation, wait times are likely during peak lunch and dinner hours — arriving mid-afternoon or early in the evening helps avoid the busiest periods. Casual dress is entirely appropriate, and the mid-range pricing makes it accessible without needing to plan around budget.

Visitor Reviews
Upon stepping foot into Chomchan, it's like going into your relatives house, it has a real homey feel and set up to the restaurant, which translates into the foods that they serve. All of the dishes that we ordered were delicious and made me feel just right at home! The top dishes that I would recommend to try would be their crab curry, fried vegs and the fried omelette! The crab curry has a unique flavour profile which you can't really find anywhere else. Their fried vegs with the dried shrimps and their fried omelette were really well executed! Highly recommend a visit to anyone that's in the area! 😋 Do note that this is a cash-only establishment! ☺️
No wonder it is on Bib Gourmand 7 years in a row!!!! Everything is just simply spot on and clicking all the boxes. The yellow carb curry and the ink stir fried squid are definitely MUST try!!! The taste is just phenomenal, perfect combination in sweet, savory and a dash of punch from the heat. It is so hard to describe the entire experience with the words. Please just put it on your this and spare a meal from your journey it won't let you down.
One of the best restaurant we have been in Phuket ! We have been twice and the food is super high quality and cooked to perfection! Traditional Thai drinks also great! I really recommend the soft Shell crab&mango salad and the tamarind shrimps, one of the most delicious dish I have ever tasted !

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
