Visitor Reviews
10 day guys trip to Thailand and it was hot!! Or maybe I just have to lose a few pounds. This place was bustling. Busy busy busy. Every bar and restaurant had customers. The country is so very accommodating of us Americans. The Thailand people are some of the most wonderful and respectful individuals I've ever met.
Lively and very noisy. Many many bars, food vendors and live music bars. Well worth checking out. Look out for the dancing shrimp lady and get your camera at the ready
I can only speak to the food court area as I did not partake in the bars. During opening hours, staff are very friendly and laid back. I asked, apparently at a non-food stand, it was a coffee stand, about the availability of food and I was pointed to a table and given a menu from a nearby food vendor. The employee told me it was all "same same." The chicken kao praow and mango sticky rice were flavorful and delicious. To top it all, it was inexpensive. Contrast a day later when I happened to walk to the same food court on a busy Friday night and man the vibe was different. No longer relaxed and easy going. Every stall I happened to walk by, I got pressured to sit down at their table and when I would continue walking, the next food stall would push a menu in my face and try to direct me to a table, and etc. I had food vendors yelling for me from several stalls away. Very competitive. Not "same same." I was a bit turned off and walked away. In a nutshell, food is good and inexpensive but the vibe changes from when they first open to later in the night.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
