The Kitchen by Matoy
Tucked into the Ao Nang area of Krabi, The Kitchen by Matoy has built a loyal following among travellers seeking Thai food that goes beyond the tourist-trail standard. Reviewers consistently describe the cooking as genuine and flavour-forward, with one visitor returning after eight years away and finding the food exactly as they remembered — a telling endorsement for a place that could easily coast on its busy location. The menu covers classic Thai dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and well-balanced flavours. Spring rolls and fresh juices have drawn specific praise, and the kitchen is accommodating of vegan diners — swapping in tofu and adjusting dishes on request, though it is worth asking staff directly to confirm ingredients. The atmosphere complements the food, with multiple visitors describing it as one of the stronger dining experiences in Ao Nang overall. Practically speaking, the restaurant opens every day of the week from 11:00 in the morning until 23:00 at night, making it a reliable option for both lunch and late dinners — useful in a beach destination where meal times can run unpredictably. There is no booking website listed, so arriving early during peak evening hours is advisable, particularly during the high season between November and April when Ao Nang sees its heaviest visitor numbers.

Visitor Reviews
I decided to go to this restaurant when I saw the high ratings on Google Maps and I was not disappointed.👍 I started with delicious springs rolls with a fresh pineapple juice XL size. All this for a price that wasn't excessive 👌 The staff are very pleasant and do their best to understand customers' requests despite the language barrier 👏

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
