Why go, and how to do it well
The Monkey Trail is the short path over the headland at the south end of Ao Nang Beach, beside the Centara Grand resort, and it's the easy way to Pai Plong, the quiet cove on the other side. Wooden steps and walkways climb through the trees and a steep staircase drops down to the sand, and most people take about 15 minutes each way. It costs nothing.
The name comes from the long-tailed macaques that live along it. They grab anything loose, food, bottles and bags included, so zip everything away, don't feed them and give them room. In the early morning you may not see any at all, and it's also the coolest time to walk.
