Why go, and how to do it well
Saleethip is a family mango sticky rice shop on the Thonburi side of the river in the Wat Arun district, run by the third generation of a family that started selling in 1957. It is a neighborhood shop rather than a destination café, which is the reason to go: the mangoes come from the orchards around Damnoen Saduak, you choose between the perfumed Nam Dok Mai and the sweeter Ok Rong, and the portions are generous. Durian sticky rice joins the menu when durian is in season.
It makes a good finish to a Wat Arun visit for anyone willing to walk ten minutes inland from the temple rather than eat at the stalls by the pier, and it is far quieter than the famous names across the river.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
Use Grab for Delivery
The Grab app works for food delivery across Thailand, letting you order from street stalls and restaurants alike. It's invaluable on rainy days or when you want to eat in your hotel.
