RONGROS
Perched along Thanon Maha Rat in Bangkok's historic Phra Nakhon district, this Thai restaurant draws evening diners with its rooftop setting and direct views of Wat Arun across the Chao Phraya River. The location places it within easy walking distance of the Grand Palace, making it a natural choice for those finishing a day of sightseeing in the old city. The menu leans into creative Thai cooking, with dishes like ribeye green curry with roti and egg fried sweetbush sprouts earning particular praise from visitors. The restaurant is intimate in scale, which contributes to the atmosphere but also means seating is genuinely limited. Riverside and window tables offer the most coveted views, especially during golden hour when Wat Arun is at its most striking. The kitchen and floor operate every evening from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, seven days a week. Good to know: this is one of Bangkok's harder restaurants to simply walk into. Reviewers consistently advise booking riverside and window seats at least one month in advance, with other tables requiring around two weeks notice. Visit the restaurant's LinkTree page before reaching out, as it likely holds current booking and menu information. Arriving early in the evening improves the chances of catching the sunset view over the river, which is widely considered the highlight of the experience.

Visitor Reviews
First of all, a word of advice for anyone wanting to book this restaurant: you must book at least one month in advance for riverside and window tables. For non-riverside or window tables, book at least 2-3 weeks in advance because the restaurant fills up very quickly due to limited space. They only accept reservations for two time slots: 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM. If you don't book in advance, you'll have to take your chances. Regarding the food, I recommend the glass noodle salad, green curry with roti, and pineapple fried rice. The restaurant has two seating areas. The second floor has a minimum spend of 1,000 THB per person, while the downstairs area (excluding window seats) has no minimum spend! Everything is excellent, 9/10. I deducted one point because there's only one restroom.
We had high expectations to eat here and Rongros exceeded them! We were supposed to be a party of 6 but, because of unforeseen circumstances, we had to change our plans to a party of 2 instead. They didn’t think it was a big deal at all and still accommodated us. We had a spot upstairs with a gorgeous view of Wat Arun. The food was delicious and we had the garlic prawns, vermicelli salad, fried morning glory, the sea bass, and mango sticky rice for dessert. The drinks were very good, also. We spent about $1000 baht for two people, which we thought was quite reasonable for the meal we had. We made a reservation about 2 weeks in advance, but I’m not sure if it would be required. Thank you, Rongros! We will visit again.
Totally was not prepared for this place. The food, the view was amazing. Had the egg fried sweetbush sprouts which was a party in my mouth. The ribeye green curry with roti was amazing as well. Lastly the crispy prawns was my partner's favorite. The spice and sugar level is definitely catered for the non Thais. Awesome place and will come back again most definitely

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
