RONGROS
Positioned along Thanon Maha Rat in the historic Phra Nakhon district, this intimate rooftop Thai restaurant draws evening diners with its direct sightline to Wat Arun across the Chao Phraya River. The location sits within easy walking distance of the Grand Palace, making it a natural endpoint for a day spent in Bangkok's old city. The kitchen takes a creative approach to Thai cooking, with dishes like ribeye green curry served with roti and egg fried sweetbush sprouts drawing consistent praise from visitors. The restaurant is deliberately small in scale, which shapes the atmosphere into something unhurried and considered. Riverside and window seats offer the most sought-after views, particularly during golden hour when the temple across the river catches the fading light. The restaurant opens every evening from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, seven days a week. Good to know: seating is genuinely limited and this is not a place to walk into without a reservation. Visitors consistently recommend booking riverside and window tables at least one month in advance, with other tables requiring around two weeks notice. The restaurant's LinkTree page is the recommended starting point for current booking details and menu information. Arriving closer to opening time gives the best chance of catching the sunset over the river, which remains the experience most visitors highlight.

Visitor Reviews
First of all, a word of advice for anyone wanting to book this restaurant: you must book at least one month in advance for riverside and window tables. For non-riverside or window tables, book at least 2-3 weeks in advance because the restaurant fills up very quickly due to limited space. They only accept reservations for two time slots: 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM. If you don't book in advance, you'll have to take your chances. Regarding the food, I recommend the glass noodle salad, green curry with roti, and pineapple fried rice. The restaurant has two seating areas. The second floor has a minimum spend of 1,000 THB per person, while the downstairs area (excluding window seats) has no minimum spend! Everything is excellent, 9/10. I deducted one point because there's only one restroom.
We had high expectations to eat here and Rongros exceeded them! We were supposed to be a party of 6 but, because of unforeseen circumstances, we had to change our plans to a party of 2 instead. They didn’t think it was a big deal at all and still accommodated us. We had a spot upstairs with a gorgeous view of Wat Arun. The food was delicious and we had the garlic prawns, vermicelli salad, fried morning glory, the sea bass, and mango sticky rice for dessert. The drinks were very good, also. We spent about $1000 baht for two people, which we thought was quite reasonable for the meal we had. We made a reservation about 2 weeks in advance, but I’m not sure if it would be required. Thank you, Rongros! We will visit again.
Totally was not prepared for this place. The food, the view was amazing. Had the egg fried sweetbush sprouts which was a party in my mouth. The ribeye green curry with roti was amazing as well. Lastly the crispy prawns was my partner's favorite. The spice and sugar level is definitely catered for the non Thais. Awesome place and will come back again most definitely

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
